Anyone here towing a Kendon MC trailer ?? I plan on using my Patriot to tow my kenden trailer. The trailer and bike weight in about 1500 lbs and with the 2.4 and a oil cooler I should be fine. My problem is hitch hight I need 22 inches and don't know if I can get a with the 1.25 OEM receiver. With the 2 inch, there are plenty of hitches available to give me the hight I need.

The 2" hitch will actually sit a couple inches lower than the lose hitch, but I am using a draw bar with a 2 or a 2.5 inch rise. When I go outside I'll try and measure the height with no draw bar

See if U-Haul or a similar company can order one for you. It might be a little pricy but still cheaper than putting a whole new receiver on the car.

The uhaul trailer hitch for the patriot is the Draw-tite/hidden hitch, unless you are talking about ordering a 1.25" draw bar with a rise

The MOPAR 1.25" hitch is limited to either 100lbs or 150lbs( depends on what literature you read )for tongue weight. Also, it is just a Class I hitch and again depending on what literature you read is limited to 1000-1500lbs max weight capacity even though the Patriot 2.4L w/ oil cooler is rated higher( 2000lbs ).

You always go with the lower rating. If the hitch has a higher weight rating than the vehicle defer to the vehicle spec. If the vehicle has a higher weight rating than the hitch defer to the hitch spec. I personally would be nervous towing 1500lbs with the MOPAR Class I hitch. JMHO. It puts you right at the max for the hitch which leaves no wiggle room.

I think you are better off going with an aftermarket Class III 2" hitch. It will increase your tongue weight and over all tow capacity( 350/3500 )to be more suitable to that 2000lbs vehicle capacity. Again, defer to the lower spec so go with the vehicle's 200lbs tongue weight and 2000lbs max capacity. Again, JMHO.

I tow a 17' duck boat with my 2011 Patriot 2.4L w/ oil cooler( 2000lbs max capacity ). The entire setup( trailer/boat/motor/gear )runs right around 1500-1600lbs. The MOPAR hitch just isn't up to that IMO as it maxes out on all capacties for the hitch plus I wanted a 2" receiver anyway. I have a Reese( same as Draw-tite )Class III 2" hitch. I had to get a ball mount with a 3-3.25" rise( can't recall exactly which I have as I looked at a bunch in this range before buying the aluminum one )to have my boat trailer ride properly leveled. The MOPAR hitch rides a little higher but the 2" aftermarket hitches aren't dragging on the ground or anything. With this setup I can get bye on the days when for whatever reason a little extra weight ends up in the boat. I don't exceed the vehicle's max capacity nor the hitch's.

IMO go with the aftermarket Class III 2" hitch based on your towing needs.

EDIT - I went out and measured and with the aftermarket 2" hitch from Reese and the 3-3.25" rise ball mount the top of the ball is at 20.25". This is what I tow...

Nice setup, I like your boat. I will say I heavily contemplated getting the Mopar hitch, and I don't like their lack of details and they way they word things funny. They are essentially saying it's a 2,000 lbs hitch unless you don't have a tow prep, then its a 1,000 lbs capacity hitch. Really they should say its a 2,000 lbs hitch, but your vehicle may not be able to tow that: http://moparestore.trademotion.com/moparlocator/index.cfm?action=moparAccessoryLocator&siteid=3&make=jeep&year=2011&applicationcode=MK74&category=Carriers%20%26%20Cargo%20Hauling&subcategory=Hitches%20%26%20Towing&group=Hitch%20Receiver

Thanks for your replies, many good points. I am going with the 2 inch hitch, stronger and more options.

This is my setup - using a Curt Class III 2". Total package wieght (boat, trailer, motor, gas and misc stuff) is just under 2000lbs (18 and change)

No issues whatsoever.
