How does it work..?

They haven't put the list of '08 models up yet, so this only applies to the 2007 models for the time being.

Everything you need (including application forms) is on this site:
http://www.tc.gc.ca/programs/environment/ecotransport/ecoauto.htm

As an aside, I heard on the radio that the government may be borrowing money from the residential school settlement to pay for this.

I was talking to one of their customer service reps and was told it takes about 3 months to receive your rebate. I applied about 6 weeks ago and my name isn't even in the system yet. They'll work faster in the next 6 weeks to get my cheque to me in 3 months.

It is after all a government office so I am sort of forgetting about it and when it arrives it will be a huge surprise :wow: gosh look at how long it took to get the documentation created.

After almost 2 months, I just received a letter acknowledging the receipt of my application, so at least I'm in the system now. The letter didn't say anything about when I could expect my rebate but if it takes 3 months, I should have it early in the new year. It will come in handy for paying off my credit card after Christmas.

Man o man...I've been rooked by the salesman. Before i signed the deal for my 2008 he told me I'd get a 1000 bucks back.
I got myself a 2.4 Litre...CVT Trannie.
The 2008 list wasn't even posted at that time. Now when I look at the 2007 list on the above link...it wasn't even on it...and now its not even on the 2008 list.

DO NOT ...EVER...EVER... BUY A VEHICLE FROM BOB BANNERMAN MOTORS...DON MILLS ROAD IN TORONTO..... THAT FRIGGIN S.O.B.
Thats strike 2 against that dealership....Im friggin sick of them

I'm not sure if it's a mistake or not but the 2008 list includes the 4x4, 5 speed manual with 2.4 L engine. It shows it as having the same gas mileage as the 4x2, which I'm sure is a mistake.

If I had a 4x4, 5 speed, I'd send in an application and hope for the best. I think I'd even put up a bit of a fight if it was turned down as you could say you purchased that particular vehicle based on the assumption you'd be getting a $1,000 rebate.

Once again...2008 2.4 Litre...Sport CVT automatic trannie....from what Im seeing there is if it was a 5 speed manual I'd be in better shape.
I can't see the econo guys giving a crap what my rip-off saleman said.
Oh well....Ill persevere.
Thanks again

The smaller, optional 2L engine gives you a 500$ rebate in the US as well. We have an 08 4x2 with the 2L & CVT

Personally I wouldn't deal with a Dealer that pissed me off the first time, let alone give them a second chance. Dealers imo, get ONE chance, and that is it. I am their livelyhood, they'd better treat me like it.

Score! I didn't think our 4x4 5spd would qualify for the rebate.
