Yep, it's still going on. Tell your buddy to go to Jeep.ca. There is some info on the site now.

If you want the rebate and a CVT transmision, you have to get the 2.0L engine. However, I can't find a 2.0L engine in any dealer's inventory.

I hope he has better luck in finding one with CVT.

That's not true. It says "Optional 2.0L DOHC 4 cylinder engine". If you look further into the site, you will see that only the FWD vehicles qualify and they are 2.4 Ltr engines. It has nothing to do with the engine size. It has everything to do with fuel comsumption between the FWD and 4X4.

Anyway, I hope this info helps.

Yes it has. My friend is keeping an open mind about them. Orginally he thought a jeep would not suit him. When I mention how useful mine is because of where I live he told me that he lives in a snowbelt area, and that 4WD is certainly attractive feature along with the compass's high MPG.

Now I'm E-mailing him on, the jeeps 4x4 systems, especially focusing on the compass's Freedom drive I.

I'm not sure you are correct. If you visit the ecoAuto site at Transport Canada you will see the current complete list of elligible vehicles. Two Patriots are on the list. 2.0L CVT and 2.4 Manual. (Sorry, I'm not yet allowed to post url's).

If you go to the government fuel ratings site at Natural Resources Canada
you will see that the fuel consumption is higher for the 2.4 CVT.
