according to these guys, the compass will go on....not the patriot.
upcoming powertrains sound pretty good.
mrJeepr44 11-16-2011, 01:15 AM Interesting... More power and still no transfer case, but possibly a low gear option similar to the FDII. Without a CVT that may work...
tiptronic 11-16-2011, 07:21 AM So the Patriot is " Downmarket" is it ??? Only suitable for poor Europeans , Hillbillys , Backwoods men & trailer trash!!!!Well Jeep --Go blow it out your arse!!
Well the Italians are going to emasculate the brand &you will all be driving pinko, gay , poofter 4x2 Compasses........From a vehicle that helped win WW2--to a shadow of its former self--only to be seen parked outside shopping malls !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is down market for Jeep. The Patriot starts at $15k, the Compass starts at $19k. The compass has more profit built into it. Until I see the new Compass I'm reserving judgement for if Jeep is making a mistake or not. That said, they are right. Between the current Compass and the Patriot there should be only one. I feel it should be Patriot body style, and if they want more built in profit just lux it up a little bit like they did the Compass, but I truly think that is also a mistake. Jeep should have a cheap entry level suv/cross over. It seems there are a lot of threads on this forum where people trade their Patriot up for a Wrangler or a Grand.
tiptronic 11-16-2011, 09:26 AM In early 07 the Patriot was available in UK for £14,995 , OK it was the 2.4 5 speed 4x4 Sport & Brits prefer diesels , however it was a cheap entry level model, It got people into the showrooms & introduced new British customers to the Jeep brand. Advertising was minimal & a bit pathetic but the Patriot started to sell . 3 yrs later all goes down hill . Dodge pull out of UK, Chrysler reduced to a Mini Van & Jeep re-introduce the Compass ( The one no body wanted in the first place). OK so I no longer own a Chrysler product , but having had a good look around the Delta , Ypsilon & new Compass , I cant for the life of me work out what Chrysler under the Italians are up to......
cmoore 11-16-2011, 09:54 AM Compass may have turned more profit, but patriot was a better seller. Even if the ratio was 5:4 (p:c) patriot brings more profit. I just don't see it.
Jeep Patriot 2011 4x4, sound system, towing package, tinted windows...
croat 11-16-2011, 10:00 AM Kinda like the new compass and the rental one we just had was pretty nice.
mrJeepr44 11-16-2011, 11:22 AM I'm not sure what is "more profit" on the Compass other than not offering a 2.0 4x2 without a/c for $15,900.
The fully loaded trail-rated Compass is the EXACT same as My Limited FDII. I suppose the Compass does have a little less metal, but they make up for that cost with projector headlights.
The Patriot offers everything the Compass does except for the 18" wheel option not available on FDII anyways. Woopty-doo... I don't like expensive hard to replace tires. I think they are just charging $500 more for a Compass than a Patriot because it looks like a mini Grand Cherokee. Sure it looks good... but its still the same vehicle
I never liked the hedgehog-looking Compass (I respect people owning one). Even now with a major tweak like this. People who always wanted a Grand Cherokee for less bucks will be happy. Maybe the next improvement will be changing the name from Compass to Survivor. I'm sad for the Patriot.
Woody715 11-16-2011, 04:10 PM I like the looks of my 2011 Patriot much more than the 2011 Compass - looks more rugged!!

Same here. The 2014 Compass in that picture doesn't look too terrible to me, but I still prefer my rounded-boxy look with round headlights and plain grille. The 2014 Compass does look a little like a Grand Cherokee, Jr. It just looks a little too flashy for me. And also a little too round. I don't like these "low-slung jellybeans."
The photo looks legit to me, but I still have a hard time believing it since 2014 releases are so far away.
mrJeepr44 11-16-2011, 05:07 PM That photo is a 2011/2012 Compass with a photoshopped front end. I don't know where it came from, but it isn't even a redesign....
Ignatz 11-16-2011, 07:59 PM A 6-spd manual is a nuisance to drive. See this guy? --> :Racing: You better like shifting gears as much as him, because you'll be doing it about as often.
MrMischief 11-17-2011, 09:34 AM A 6-spd manual is a nuisance to drive. See this guy? --> :Racing: You better like shifting gears as much as him, because you'll be doing it about as often.
I have a 6 speed in the Rubicon. It's quite often. vr, 5 mph, shift to 2, vro, 10 mph, shift shift to 3, vroom, 25 mph, shift to 4. vrooom 35 mph shift to 6. Yeah that's right. I very rarely use 5th. If I have any forward movement at all I also skip first and start in second. If I rev out second to get ahead of traffic at a light I shift 2 - 4 - 6. Once I'm in 6th I don't need to downshift unless I hit 40 mph. Going over I70 I stay in 6th unless there are outstanding circumstances (full jeep, slow traffic, strong wind).
So it just depends on the gearing. I like my 6 speed, but I wish the pattern was different. In a Jeep I feel first and reverse should be right above and below each other. That's how it is in my M38, makes rocking the vehicle much easier. Rocking in this 6 speed is more difficult.
Ignatz 11-17-2011, 07:59 PM Wifey's new Wrangler is a 6 spd. I tend to skip 1st unless I'm on a grade, and I only use 6 if I'm going to be in it for awhile. So, 2-3-4-5 for me most of the time.
I suppose that top gear is to eek out an extra mpg to satisfy the epa. If you fill it up and then drive from here to Philadelphia in 6th without stopping you'll get the sticker mpg figure.
JeepWill83 11-27-2011, 09:08 AM I love the idea of a turbo and the new tranny, but that front end is hidious. They should leave it the way it is now.
