okay, so they're not official, but i know we've all been wondering, so here's what i've found so far. apparently, there's a small bit of hope that the patriot, for some odd reason, will get better than the 2.4 caliber's 23/26.

check out this jeep test site page:

http://test.jeep.com/en/07patriot/features/value/

it says "Jeep Patriot has best-in-class fuel economy." and in the notes at the bottom, it says "preliminary 2006 Patriot EPA estimate of 25 mpg city and 30 mpg highway."

i've been regularly checking up on the test page (note: on the overview page, they've just added a link to a build & price (http://test.jeep.com/en/07patriot/build_price/) for the patriot! it doesn't work yet though), and those numbers just got there, so they can't be very old.

these compass gas mileage estimates are older, but i thought i'd share anyway. here's a pdf file (http://www.daimlerchrysler.com/Projects/c2c/channel/documents/802911_AANY2006_Eberhardt.pdf) on daimlerchrysler.com dated 1/12/06 that has estimates for the compass on page 27.

under 2007 Jeep Compass, it says "2.4L dual VVT. 170 hp with 27 city / 31 highway." of course, we know it's 172 hp, so i'm not sure about the accuracy.

anyway, sounds pretty good so far, i thought. darn caliber at 23/26 bringing me down ... we'll see.

They probably got those gas mileage ratings on the 2wd Patriot.

The 2.4L Caliber (R/T trim) only comes in AWD. The base level Patriot has the same engine with only 2wd, so that's probably where the discrepancy is coming from. Mileage will probably drop to the same or worse than Caliber levels once you put in the Freedom Drive I or Freedom Drive II packages.

I could be totally wrong about this though.

good point about the awd on the caliber.

OK guys, today, I just checked my gas mileage on my 98 XJ, with 223,000 miles. Granted, with gas prices approaching $3.00/gal., I have really eased up on the throttle, since I commute nearly 100 miles to and from work every day. Most of the miles are "highway" miles, with 4 stoplights and 4 stop signs between home and work. I have been trying to average between 55 and 60 MPH, which is pretty easy for me since I leave for work at 3:00 AM. My mileage average today was 24.2 MPG on the 4.0 L inline 6. Not bad for an engine that is slowly starting to show its age.

Let's hope this engine is 1/2 as capable as the 4.0 L.

I finally saw the numbers, printed REAL SMALL at the bottom of the page. I figure one of these days, DC will have new stuff on here about colors, pricing and such, but the wait is killin me

wow, i can't believe they upload stuff to the web without having everything going on all cylinders first. and it's like it's had a busted link for a half an hour -- it's like been 24 hours now. that is almost amateur web design.

wonder when they will actually get the pricing on their website (that they are alluding to)? i am guessing 06/13 (next tuesday)

The equip and build site is an external jeep site, so the broken link is probably a link to the external site that WILL be operational soon.

Before deploying changes to a website, many companies have a test web server they upload the changes to. Most of the development is done internally, but they usually upload the new website to a test server to make sure that it actually works on the web.

That also leads to a potentially huge security hole, because the test webservers are typically not monitored as closely as real ones. So hackers may actually hack into the test server undetected...

What is significant about next Tuesday? I am dying to see colors, options, prices and MPG!

i guess it was not clear, but the gist of what i was getting at is that daimler-chrysler (jeep) has a publicly accessable test website, and there are dead links on it which haven't been addressed in over a day. maybe that's because they don't expect other people to be looking at it, but it's out there in cyberspace and readily available.

i think it is days if not weeks before d-c puts pricing information on the patriot up on their website. that's why i just threw out a date, like next tuesday, the 13th of june, when the pricing would appear on jeep's test website (and at that point i would think that d-c would be ready for the prime time and put it on www.jeep.com).

Agreed...that link is not supposed to be a "Live" public site. That is defintely a test server to work out bugs before deploying to a live environment..

it's definitely a test server, so it's no big deal that the link isn't working. you should note, however, that designyourjeep.com, even while it played host to the preliminary compass build&price, has never been accessible directly (you can't just goto designyourjeep.com). you have to use the specific url (like the one the jeep site directs you to) to get to anything (but they removed the compass page when the officially-priced build&price got added to jeep.com, and the patriot's isn't up yet, so right now there's nothing to get to). that said, i would expect the preliminary build&price to be up soon, even if the regular jeep site doesn't get a link to it for a while, because they can go ahead and put it up, knowing that no one would randomly type in the specific url address and that the only link to it is on their test server, which, they assume, no one looks at. in other words, i'm checking it daily.

cool! sneaky... Any way you could PM the URL to it over my way? Do you have one for the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 4-door, too?

If you watch the second video on the "test site" they list the manual transmission gas mileage at 25/29....its listed onscreen about 2/3 of the way thru the video.

Where is the second video? I too am interested in a manual transmission with AWD - if offerred. All I see is the 25/30 estimate.

Dodge Calibers with 2.4L and manual transmissions will not be build until late summer according to Dodge sales with Compass not building until at earliest mid July for the manual according to Jeep dealer.

Curious that the new Wranglers & Wrangler Unlimiteds also do not have pricing published. The Unlimited is supposed to roll out this summer

Go to the link provided at the beginning of this thread. Once there, click on the "Photos/Video" at the bottom left side of the page. Then click on the "Video" link near the top....it will say "Exterior", "Interior", "Video". There will be two videos offered....one that is 7 minutes, and another that is 4....they say basically the same thing.

K see it now. so it is 25/29 with manual and most likely the 4x2. Not bad.

I don't know if you guys know this or not, but if you follow the link provided in the first post of this thread...and then hit the links that take you to the Compass, you can build and price it as well as see all the different features.

I want to check out the build test page! I can't wait until it is functional.

for those following the test page, the compass page on the test site is now, apparently, the in-production version ... worth checking out, even tho there's not much new information ... it does make a couple references to 25/29 mpg tho, under all 2wd, 4wd, cvt, and manual combos. still not official epa estimates yet ... but it does back up the 25/29 flashed on the screen in the 2nd patriot video.

Itried to check out the 'test site' linked in the original post of this thread, last night... it just locked up each and every time. I wonder if that means they were in the process of actually updating it!

Unfortunately it is more likely that Jeep has "discovered" others are visiting the test web site and is now using it as a "honeypot" while the web site is being tested elsewhere. It is now available again but appears to be nothing more or less than the production web site redux.

Junk...complete junk. I guess they don't live by the motto: "If you ain't cheatin' you ain't tryin'!".......and brother, this board is trying.
