So I bought a used 2007 Compass from a dealer recently. I noticed at high speed driving the steering seemed loose. Turning the steering wheel had no response for about 5" of turn in either direction. Quite scary if you know what I mean. At 65 MPH the ESP light would come on.
So I take it to Midas to see if they would put it on a lift to check out front end. Bingo - both Rack and Pinion screws were loose. He torqued them down and now steering is nice! :smiley_thumbs_up::smiley_thumbs_up::smiley_thumbs _up:

So here is the question -How did theses bolts get loose after only 11,000 miles???? The car was not in an accident. Could they have been loose coming out of the factory??? can these thing com loos and fall off while I'm driving???:confused:

Best guess (only a guess) they weren't torqued down from the factory. You will more that likely not have any more problems with that again.

I had a '74 New Yorker that as we drove it out of the prep area to take it home the welds broke on the steering box mounting bracket. We pushed it back in, put it up on the rack and welded the bracket back on. Mistakes happen but it always seems to be "why me?". You're just one of the "lucky" ones like me. :)
