: Who wants to get high? -Mosquito Pass, Colorado
MrMischief 09-28-2011, 02:54 PM Meet at Wendy's in Aspen Park, Colorado off of 285 at 9:30 AM on Saturday Oct. 1.
From here we will be heading west on 285 and then north on highway 9... left on mosquito pass and up and over we go! We'll be hitting 13,185 feet in elevation. Traildamage rates this a 3 to a 4.

This is the toughest part of the trail I could find a picture on Traildamage:
http://www.traildamage.com/trails/mosquito_pass/030809/rocky_road.jpg
This looks like the worst section of the trail:

I have not been on this trail, however I'm told a FDII Patriot should be able to make it through.
dixiedawg 09-28-2011, 03:08 PM Looks ok from the photo. You just keep teasing me with these trips. One day, I'll go. Maybe next summer-fall. Now my wife wonders why I suddenly want to go visit her sister in Colorado.
MrMischief 09-28-2011, 03:17 PM I don't think I posted the pics from last weekend with Sandstone.

Patriot fitting in just fine with the rest of the Jeeps (and ranger and bronco).

robi454 09-28-2011, 03:32 PM Yet again, another misleading thread title.
Where is the pic of the Patriot leading the pack up the hill???
Good shots I like em! The background for your photos is amazing.

Sandstone 09-28-2011, 04:14 PM No, more like:
"This won't take long"
"It can't be that bad"
etc..
dixiedawg 09-29-2011, 07:15 AM You folks always have pretty pictures. The one thing that disappointed me when I went out west in the fall, was lack of color. The Aspen trees get a nice golden color, but that was about it. Here in PA we get some beautiful red and oranges and all colors. This weekend and next should be about peak for our fall foliage. Hopefully the weather will be good and I'll get some nice photos.

Sandstone 10-03-2011, 06:36 PM Thanks Dixie. Look forward to seeing the fall pics from your neck of the woods. Wish you could have made it out this way.

Not this time.
I did the week before on a run with the same group. I think there may be a vid or some pics coming.

lol yeah, ive been busy, this whole gf thing takes up a lot of time :O Btw, I am thinking of doing some more rampart range road if your up for it. Idk why, but I really like the area around there. Its not too rocky but the soft dirt makes it fun.

You all could probably walk right through Illinois Gulch out there. Normally there are people playing on moab rock if you're interested in watching someone break their rig. Moab rock is optional you can go around it so it's not anything you'd have to worry about. I only remember one hill that sorta screwed me up because of the loose dirt. Someone from another club was right on my ass so I couldn't back up to get a run at it so had to use the lockers to get me up it. But really I think that was just a dumb mistake compounded by someone not leaving proper following distance.
Was just thinking, if you want to make a day of it. You can head to Castle Rock, take umm... crap wolfsenberger? I think is the exit, head west, you'll go through a bit of a windy road, then T at some highway (perry park?). Turn left. Head up that way a few miles until you have a dirt road on your right labeled Jackson Creek. Head up that past something called like "The Great White Chuch of the Creator" (sounds racist but I don't know if it is. Never had a problem in the area). Just after that on the left is a road that dives down into a gulch called Hidden Valley. it says dead end or something like that but it's lying to you. That's a fun little trail that will take you to daken road. Shortly after you cross the creek (you can take the bridge or go through the water) look for the steep hill to your left and back you can drive up and come down. Follow Daken to 503. Turn right on 503, then really quickly there is a left you need to take. I forget the name there but follow it all the way to Rampart Range Road. From Rampart I'm not sure how you'd get to Illinois Gulch, but we did it before. It took quite awhile, but was a fun day in the hills.
I got myself all worked up now. I might be for tagging with if you guys do this. Going to try to buy a Commander tonight, so it's going to need to get broken in properly.
ColoradoMan 10-11-2011, 12:03 PM Waiiitt.... since when are you getting a commander??? o.O What happened to your nice wrangler D:
Ive been on that trail 3 times now so i know the route, its where i started trail riding, I really like it, but its a pretty easy trail, nothing too bad at all, i would say a 2-3 rating,
hmmmm.... You know saturday might work for me, I got to see what I got going on but it looks good.
MrMischief 10-11-2011, 02:54 PM Still keeping the wrangler. Been looking at replacements for my wife's Charger. Patriot is on the list, but when a Commander is the same price......
ColoradoMan 10-11-2011, 03:48 PM Yeah i was tempted by the commander too. Its just too big for what i want and it uses up quite a bit of gas. I am also not a big fan of the visual aspects of it.
So you up for saturday with the commander? if the pat can do it i am sure the commander will have no problem
MrMischief 10-11-2011, 03:54 PM We haven't bought it yet, but yeah I'm probably up for Saturday. JK buddy will probably tag with as well.
ColoradoMan 10-12-2011, 11:25 AM There are some areas that will test your jk for sure. There are two areas that I didn't go on but sandstone tried them both and was unable to take the hard route through them.

Which areas are those? The large rock in the play ground at the first part of the trail?
ColoradoMan 10-16-2011, 09:25 PM I was talking about the large rocks and the part that we didnt get to try over the weekend and last time it was closed off
MrMischief 10-17-2011, 01:50 PM Sorry guys did we miss something up there you wanted to play on? I didn't realize. My brother in law is wanting to try to tag with someplace next weekend if you want to go out again
