: UK: 2.4 miles per tank?
mr strange 09-18-2011, 11:36 AM Just wondering what anyone with the 2.4 petrol is getting to a tank.
I'm averaging about 350 miles when the indicator shows 0 miles left, but figure there is probably almost a gallon left, but too chicken to find out.
the_jeep_now 09-19-2011, 12:14 AM That's not bad at all. I'm lucky if I get to 300.
Stonent 09-19-2011, 05:07 PM I seem to get anywhere from 280 to 320.
tiptronic 09-20-2011, 07:11 AM Dont forget the UK Gallon is bigger than the US Gallon!!!!!
dixiedawg 09-20-2011, 08:50 AM Hmm, I don't think you have the FDII in UK, I usually get between 260 and 280 miles per tank.
the_jeep_now 09-20-2011, 10:01 AM Dont forget the UK Gallon is bigger than the US Gallon!!!!!
Am I missing something here? Isn't the tank size the same? If so, miles driven per tank should be somewhat close.
tiptronic 09-20-2011, 11:14 AM Nope Mr, t j n you are not missing the point !! ( I thought we were on another MPG thread) of course no matter what you call you gallon & its size , the tank size remains the same .I would think that 350 miles would be good. Maybe with a couple of cup-full's left sloshing in the tank!!
But as an Interest UK Gall = 4.546 Litre
US Gall = 3.785 Litre
mr strange 09-22-2011, 01:33 AM Well I presume a mile is the same in the UK as in the US so I find it strange there is such a difference.
Could it be to do with the octane of the fuel?
Borderspeed 11-06-2011, 07:58 PM Yes they are the same. Both the UK and US use the International definition for the mile, which is 5,280 international feet. Which is about 1.609 kilometres.
It is more than likely down to transmission (CVT v's Manual) and also depends on driving style and journey types.
jepstr67 11-06-2011, 11:00 PM If I ran my tank down to 13 gallons, leaving 1/2 a gallon, I could the 350 miles you say. That would be about normal for highway driving in good conditions. No wind, moderate temperatures, fuel without ethanol. I usually fill when the light comes on at 11.5 gallons used which is in the high 200s for miles.
However, when my Commander says 0 miles left, it still contains 2+ gallons. The commander uses a lot a fuel compared to the Patriot, but not THAT bad!! ;)
My Patriot does not have and EVIC so I don't have the "miles to empty" function.
Lordy123 11-07-2011, 10:46 AM Variable range for my driving:
Most 389
Least 330
pilgrim42 02-10-2012, 12:50 PM Dont forget the UK Gallon is bigger than the US Gallon!!!!!
This poses a further question - does the average MPG indicator in Patriots made in the USA and imported into the UK show readings in US or UK gallons?
My 2.2 CRD diesel shows combined 33.6 MPG which is very poor if it's shown in UK gallons. However, if it's shown in US gallons it would be 40 MPG in UK gallons, which would be closer to the brochure figures. For my sanity, I need to know!!!!
cpole17 02-10-2012, 01:21 PM When I do the calcs I figured my last tank I would have gotton about 240-260miles out of it. That is 100% city driving (stop and go) driving with a 5 speed and FD1.
I have only made one trip all highway and it was on one of the few days this year the winter conidtions and roads were poor in Sotuthwestern Ontario so not a good gauge.
That equates to about 25MPG (UK) and 20.5 (US). Not really what I was hoping for when I bought it. I replaced a 2003 Grand Am with a 3.4L auto.
Hoping come summer I can get the 30 MPG (UK) city out of it as advertised with summer gas and warmer temps. In Canada I believe they advertise as about 30 MPG city and 40 Highway.

Why don't you just manually calculate your MPG? Take miles driven and divide by gallons filled up. That will be your the most accurate reading and then compare it to EVIC to see if it matches.
Metaxa 02-10-2012, 06:14 PM Filled up this AM, re-set my trip meter.
296.8 kms
29.5 l
so that is 10l/100km
or 28.4 Imperial mpg
or 23.64 US mpg
That is battling lots of wind, rain and generally crap driving conditions on winter gas volume corrected to 15
I was getting 30 mpg until this wind started up...funny how a box reacts to a little wind...2 mpg.

Thanks for the advice, thejeepnow, I'll give it a try but will have to use gallon/litre conversion calculations because we buy our fuel in litres and our beer in pints! Chrysler apparently changed from US to UK readouts for UK exports around the time my Patriot was made (Nov 2010), so my Patriot could have either!!!
Ignatz 02-12-2012, 12:35 PM I get about 300-315 when the warning light comes on. Usually I've got a couple gallons left. Overall average high 20s MPG. Gets 30+ driving easy on the highway; never under 26.

FINALLY I got an answer to this, by calling Jeep in Michigan after Jeep UK and Fiat Jeep in Italy couldn't help (well there's a surprise!). It's all in the 'preferences' part of the EVIC. If it shows 'metric' and 'US' options for the average MPG settings, it is in US MPG. If it shows 'metric' and 'UK', it's in UK MPG. The only EVICs calibrated in UK MPG are the ones thrown together in Italy, while those built in the US all say 'US', including those exported to the UK. So by multiplying my US MPG of 33.6 by 1.2 I get 40.3 combined UK MPG, which is much better. So now after six weeks of lying awake all night worrying, I can sleep again!
Scoops1972 03-10-2012, 05:44 AM Wow, that's interesting! I too have wondered why the display in my 2007 2.0 CRD seemed to read much lower than all the online reviews state for fuel economy, and until now I just assumed it was either my style of driving, or the fact my daily commute is combined city driving and fast A-roads, but upon checking it turns out my display shows 'US' and 'Metric'. I have never thought to calculate MPG the old fashioned way by noting how many miles to the number of litres I was getting at fill-ups. After reading this I have signed up to the Fuelly site and am going to compare the 'real' figures to the Jeep's display from now on. I appreciate I haven't suddenly gained any extra economy from this, merely nice to know my Patriot does actually achieve the figures everyone quotes. Thanks :)
BTW it works out I had been averaging 44.4 MPG (UK) before the mods, still need to do some miles to determine what effect the mods have had.
tiptronic 03-10-2012, 07:10 AM If you have a UK Patriot ....The EVIC " US Gallons " actually reads in UK Imp Gallons !!!!
Having owned a Caliber , Patriot & Avenger ..I have had this out with MOPAR sales & service many times .

Why did you have to have it out with them many times? Did they keep telling you different things? Or did they always tell you the same thing but you disputed it? I'm really curious now.
And what do you mean by a 'UK Patriot'?
tiptronic 03-10-2012, 08:24 AM A UK Patriot is the right hand drive Export model , with what is known as the UK Bumper.
hen I said " Had it out " what I meant was . When I bought the Caliber I checked Evic would read Galls IMP . I did the same when I got the Patriot & the same when I got the Avenger.
I can assure you If the EVIC on the Avenger would never read " 42 MPG " if it was in US Galls , or my Diesel Patriot " 50 MPG " ditto . With the US " little gallon " you would never see average read out like this !!!!!
Scoops1972 03-10-2012, 08:36 AM So each time you bought a UK Jeep you contacted Mopar and they specifically confirmed that the display was in UK mpg and not US mpg?
Makes you wonder why Jeep Michigan would tell Pilgrim42 something different? And why their answer would be so logical? I guess there's no point calculating the mpg for myself after all then if the display is in fact correct. lol
tiptronic 03-10-2012, 11:47 AM I dont really give a crap about MPG , I enjoy driving my cars & economy is very low on my list of priorities . & no I wasnt quite as anal as to contact anybody in the USA . I had conversations with MOPAR Technicians , service managers . my salesman & sales manager at my very excellent UK Dodge/Jeep & Chrysler dealer . All thse people had completed the complete training course for selling/ maintaining MOPAR vehicles in the UK.
If you are only worried about economy --go buy a KIA Picanto !!!!!!

Why did you need to speak to all of those excellent people just to find out if the display shows US or UK mpg if you don't even care about fuel economy anyway??? If your dealer is so good then surely the first person you asked there would have satisfactorily answered your question without having to pass you on to all the others??? :icon_rolleyes:
Ignatz 03-10-2012, 04:34 PM IMHO EVICs are notoriously inaccurate. I always do the math. If you want an overall figure, try doing it over several tankfulls, say maybe 4 or 5 tanks and divide by your distance. Or you UK folks usually figure liters/100 kms, but you get the idea -- spread it out so you avoid the abberations. I've found the EVIC in my previous vehicles, including Wifey's Wranger, is very optimistic. (Don't have that feature in my Patriot)
