It is upgradeable but a muffler shop has to build you a custom system as there are no kits available yet. Any good shop can do the job--I had a Hushpower put on mine just in front of the rear axle-a glasspack would fit there as well. With a little more work & cash they can mount other types in place of the stock muffler as the only thing that will fit where I installed mine is either a Hushpower or a glasspack due to room restrictions.

as with many of the patriot/compass parts in both the oem and aftermarket world they are interchangeable. however u may find some diffs between the 4wd and fwd model exhaust systems. http://www.autotrucktoys.com/jeep_compass/Magnaflow-Jeep-Compass-Cat-Back-Exhaust-System-P17860C5463.aspx http://www.autotrucktoys.com/jeep_compass/Mopar-OEM-Jeep-Compass-Cat-Back-Exhaust-System-P21663C5463.aspx http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/shopdisplayproducts.asp

so, what does a "performance exhaust" do, other than look shiny and sound louder?

RE:

AND
according to rumor its suppose to increase exhaust flow.

Performance exhaust systems, in addition to physical appearance, mainly serve to reduce the amount of backpressure in the exhaust system, the goal being to increase performance. Be wary though; altering exhaust flow can compromise the integrity of the engine, because these newer engines have very specific, not to mention picky, fuel to air mixture ratios. While you can ideally increase performance, there is always a risk of significantly reducing performance because oxygen has escaped and the detonation of the cylinder will be, say, not so enthusiastic. Not to mention your new mpg's...But don't let me discourage anyone! I'd do it myself, but in this economy you can't walk without hearing a cha-ching.

Personally, I think the stock muffler looks and sounds pretty boring. If you walk this path, please, keep us updated :)

I have had mine for about 9 months and it has increased mileage, added a little sound and looks better than the monster originally installed. Easy install too.

according to rumor its suppose to increase exhaust flow.

and with that, your ride can establish more horsepower and release trapped torque in the engine; thus boosting its performance.

You can increase gas milage and free up horsepower by releaving back flow. With such a small engine, it wont give you a lot more, but could be worth it in the long run. You won't add 5 MPGs or anything but you could see maybe 1/2 mile per gallon or more on the highway.

I keep almost an anal level of records to verify my modifications. The mpg bump was much larger than I had forecast. Input air is the next mod

Well i have been doing some checking and i think i am going to end up doing the camaro muffler from flowmaster. It is an 80 series muffler and should sound good. went to the shop the other day and they shld be able to do it for about $350 so not to bad. but in the mean time i had to paint that coffin muffler cause it was bugging the crap out of me. that thing is just ugly. But i cand say painted it blends in nice and you can hardly see it. i left the tip unpainted just to see how it looked and i like it.
