: Little BLack & Brown Specks on Roof
pvirga88 08-23-2011, 09:27 PM I had my 2011 Riot Parked for about a week while I was on Vacation. I took it to get washed and as I was drying it off noticed little black and brown specks on the roof. I couldn't wipe them off with a towel they looked to be embedded in the paint. I used some ScratchX and it came right off... What is this stuff that just appeared out of no where it looked like Rust Almost?
Do you think there is something wrong with the paint? Truck only has 3,500 miles on it. There is nothing like this on the rest of my truck only the roof.
Thanks
Phil
Afmcronnie 08-23-2011, 10:07 PM Was somebody flying an old airplane? Seriously, if it wiped right off, whats the problem? Some crap fell out of the sky. Fly ash, junk from a windstorm. Who knows. I had my Jeep covered with a thin, even coat of pollen once. Freaked me out. Gave it a green-yellow tint. Keep it waxed up, it's all good.
Justin Murphy 08-24-2011, 06:43 AM Nothings wrong with your paint. It was most likely a sap. Nope not the sticky sap from a pine that you think of but more like a spore. 4 trees produce it and it's hard to get off.
Just make sure to keep your paint waxed/sealed. Especially the roof! It gets the most exposure.
pvirga88 08-24-2011, 01:43 PM I looked at the roof this morning and I have to take off my roof basket now to get the rest of the crap off. Not Happy at all... I am never parking my truck at my parents house for more than 1 night again... never had crap like this on my car ever... Dirty Ass Yonkers, NY glad I moved out of there and went an hour upstate...
I need to wax her anyway before I go camping next weekend so this is just making the waxing come sooner than later...
JamesNewJeep 08-24-2011, 06:33 PM Do they live near a train? I have rail dust all over my Jeep(. its a PITA to get off) Are the tiny specks or more like blots?

Claying is the best way to remove rail dust. It sucks so bad in so many ways.

I have clayed, but there is so much of this on my Jeep that I would need several days to complete it and I do not have a garage, so I am S.O.L.

This stuff is pretty good. I know of a lot of detailers and dealerships that use it.

Would you say it is easier than claying AND as effective? or not as effective, but less work?
JamesNewJeep 08-25-2011, 09:11 PM Nevermind, I read the whole page. This is to get the brunt of the work done and clay afterward, thanks man!

No prob. That's what I'm here for!
pvirga88 09-01-2011, 10:44 AM Well I finally had the time to get the grime off... I don;t know what it was but it was a pain to get it completely off.
Removed my Roof Basket and washed the entire car... then took to the ScratchX and removed all the surface crap, then used cleaner wax to prep it for the final waxing...
All Gone now... Now I have to figure out how to get the white wax marks off all the plastic.
Fixed one problem caused another... Damn!!! LOL
I think I might try the peanut butter trick...

What wax did you use?
Stoner's Tarminator will remove it. It's at most parts stores.

ScratchX (http://www.meguiarsdirect.com/product_detail.do?q=4580): Used to remove the heavy spots and road tar.
Meguiars Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner (http://www.meguiarsdirect.com/product_detail.do?q=4576): Prep for Waxing gets all the crap off the paint Great Stuff. Try not to get it on the black plastic pieces though cause it leaves white marks. (This is always my downfall when waxing I always tend to get it on everything and can't get it off. Need to try the Peanut Butter Method or Back to Black to remove this stuff).
Armor All Smooth Butter Wax (http://www.armorall.com/products/view_product.php?product_id=34): Final Coat of Wax - Leaves No White Residue on Plastic Panels. (It's really too late for that cause the prep leaves the white residue. This stuff is really easy to use and requires no waiting time basically wipe on and wipe off. Really Great Product... :) )
