: North central PA meet, 2011?
dixiedawg 05-23-2011, 06:56 AM Anyone interested in a summer, fall, or winter meet in north central PA?
We had one winter meet a few years ago, met some other Patriot folks from the forums, got some nice photos and video, and attendees got posters with photos from it.
There was not a lot of interest the last time I checked, so we have not met since, so just checking now to see if there is any interest.
jlobaugh 05-23-2011, 08:23 AM I'm in :) gotta get some new rubber beforehand though, I'm still running the stock bologna skins(Firestone).
dixiedawg 05-23-2011, 08:27 AM No real off-road trails around I can find, so far, so if no trails will be more of a Meet & Greet. I did take one road through a state forest on Friday, nice road, but would be tough if anyone came the other way as it was one lane only and very few places to pull over. Saw 2 beaver dams on the way and nice streams.
We could drive into the PA Grand Canyon for some photos though.
And I'm up for whatever other folks want to do. And I'll keep looking for trails.
jlobaugh 05-23-2011, 09:57 AM I would assume there are plenty of places to camp around? I am thinking about bringing my oldest son and pitching a tent.
dixiedawg 05-23-2011, 10:08 AM Closest would be Cherry Springs state park. They also have a Dark Skies park if you're into astronomy, or just star gazing.
They also have a Woodsman's Show in August. There are a bunch of private campgrounds too. And The PA Grand canyon is a good float trip, and there is a bicycle trail through the canyon too.

dixiedawg 05-23-2011, 10:58 AM Another option would be a convoy to the railroad for a trip, maybe the Ice cream Express.

dixiedawg 05-25-2011, 07:05 AM I really need to see some more interest in this before I spend a lot of time organizing a meet. Anyone else interested?

I need some new tires too. I got the stock tires and they are pretty bad offroad. I would love to go with you guys if I wasn't stuck in colorado. If any of you ever make it out this way, there are trails all over the place.

I'll be driving out that way (kinda) in the fall. My buddy lives in NE Arizona and we're gonna go do some camping. I flew out there last weekend for a little R&R, but I don't find commercial air travel at all relaxing. I don't mind doing it for work, because I'm getting paid to put up with it, but my next trip to the mountains will definitely be in the riot.

would love to meet up with you guys,
just could never confirm till last minute,
as for choochoo train ride,
did similar in another part of PA,
old trains, nice views, fun ride for kids and adults.
dixiedawg 05-26-2011, 07:43 AM I might get to Colorado sometime too, My wife's sister lives there, and I know she wants to go for a visit sometime.
Lot's of folks like to come to the mountains in the fall for the foliage. Beautiful scenery when the leaves are are all colors, and a bit cooler too. Just tough for me to pick a time in fall, as I hunt birds and archery hunt for deer.
jloffermann 05-26-2011, 09:37 PM (sorry for this)
man I wish people in California wanted to meet up with patriots haha
dixiedawg 05-31-2011, 09:09 AM Still trying to gauge if there's enough interest in a meet, so let me know folks.
Summer? Nice places to visit
Fall? Foliage is beautiful
Winter? Snow covered mountains, and good 4wd use
And I will make posters from photos of the meet, like for the winter meet a couple years ago. You can ask Butch and Todd about the posters.
dixiedawg 06-02-2011, 06:41 AM Just giving this thread a bump, if we do something in summer I need to start planning soon, fall is not as bad but my fall weekends get filled quickly. My friends always want to come to hunt with me, or just come visit to enjoy the fall colors, so my weekends book quickly for fall.
Terasec 06-02-2011, 08:36 AM i would still be interested,
as i said before i just cant confirm till last minute but will try,
would like to mix it up with some outdoors stuff,
trails, fishing, camping, etc...
i will keep following this
dixiedawg 06-07-2011, 07:46 AM If you have a PA license, there are several places to fish. Do you trout fish? The Allegheny river near me is good, and the stream that runs through the PA Grand Canyon is ok. And not too far south of me is the 1st fork of the Sinnemahoning, and a good place to fish is right in Sinnemahoning State Park.
There are many state parks and private campgrounds around, even two parks on the sides of the PA Grand Canyon, and the closest is Cherry Springs state park.

Lots of GeoCaches in the area too, if you're into that.
I'm still trying to gauge interest in a meet. Some weekends are already out for me, like the weekend of Aug 13 is out, and I know a couple weekends at the end of July are also no good.
So if you have any interest in meeting, please let me know.
Guitar Dude 33 06-09-2011, 11:35 PM I'd be interested in this. Still haven't met anyone else with a Riot. I'm out by Philly, so the PA Grand Canyon is probably the farthest i'd be willing to go.
No serious off-road trails are alright to me....but we need to try to find some places for MUD!
dixiedawg 06-11-2011, 02:16 PM I'm not far from the Grand Canyon. I just came up from Philly yesterday. Was a really nice ride, and I found gas for $3.53 a gal on the way, bonus. I went past the Little League museum and the buildings for all the little league tournaments and stuff in Williamsport.

And there's a real nice scenic overlook as you come down into the town too.
From there to Wellsboro

Then right past the Grand Canyon, onto route 6, from there I'm just over Denton Hill.
dixiedawg 06-15-2011, 11:28 AM Still trying to gauge interest in a summer meet. If we can't pick a date soon, we can just consider a fall meet.
erik11riot 07-03-2011, 10:28 PM maybe set up a RC in the fall?? Im game for that
dixiedawg 07-13-2011, 07:52 AM I'm still willing to meet sometime this summer, but most of my weekends are booked now.
Maybe in the fall? Peak fall foliage time would be around the first week of October.
Let me know if you're interested.

dixiedawg 09-17-2011, 11:52 AM Cool, I travel through that area often. My mother in law lives in Warren, and my friend has a camp just below the damn at Kinzua. The whole north central are is beautiful in the fall. I like the PA Grand Canyon are too for foliage.
I'd still be willing to meet up with folks in the fall and/or winter. Leaves are starting to change already, but usually the peak is around the first week of October. Also the beginning of archery season, so some places get a bit more crowded. There's a lot of fall festivals around then too.

dixiedawg 09-19-2011, 06:45 AM About 3.5 hours from the Pittsburgh area too. Not sure from Philly, but Todd has been there maybe he'll let us know how long the drive is? I know it was a really nice ride when I drove from my sister's house near Philly, I just don't remember how long it took.
There are inexpensive places to stay around the area too.

I would love to caravan with you, but I am on-call that weekend, My sons Birthday party is the next day, and we have family in from out of town.
dixiedawg 09-19-2011, 07:51 AM we have family in from out of town.
Too bad, would be good to meet you. It will be archery season, but I'll give up a day for a meet. I'm open to any weekend too.
dixiedawg 09-28-2011, 08:32 AM Next couple weekends should be peak for the leaves. I'm very busy right now, but if anyone comes up for a ride, let me know and we should be able to meet.
