This is why we have so many identical threads.

A tribute to the guy who always posts "just what we need, Another mileage thread."

Even if before posting a new thread, you do try to find a thread you know existed or even if you know the name of it, It won't come up in "search Jeep Patriot .com. Why is this search engine for the sight so bad? Example. A fellow just posted a video of off roading at a construction site. I searched "stupid kids" a term that came up several times in several different posts in the thread. I searched urban off road, also terms used in the thread, and construction sight. What do you have to do to get this search engine to ever find anything? None of those searches came close to finding this recent thread.

I will also add a big thank you to the staff that runs the site. I have had many (too many) hours of entertainment and enjoyment at Jeeppatriot.com. Since this is the thread to suggest things to make the site better, I thought I'd post a heads up on my bad experiences with the search engine.

Thanks
Jepstr

There are two search functions on this site. The one you are using is powered by google and the results are completely out of our control. The more appropriate search function for most purposes is right above the other one on the Main tool bar.

Both serve different purposes; The Google powered search is a little more vague, it allows for you to mispell words, and it is a little more familiar for novice users. The VB Built In search is going to be more exact and will search for the terms as precisely as you type them.

It's a bit confusing and perhaps even redundant, but there is a method behind the madness!

Would it be possible to add another button beside the Search button, like Advanced Search or VB Search, that would trigger the VB search function instead? I absolutely hate google site searches (no offense to the admins) because they are too vague.

Another suggestion on the search function -

why does a user have to wait 30 seconds between searches? I know it's some sort of anti-spam thing, but it really deters from using the search, resulting in many duplicate threads.

i.e. "where can I get the SEMA bumper?"

I think that interval may be an integral part of the software. At least we don't have to enter that nonsense "phrase directly to the right" that is always in some weird font that I can't figure out as seen on many other forums.

That bumper is part of the stimulus package isn't it?
