I wouldn't be surprised. I doubt it's made in the US though. Probably built under license in Asia somewhere. It's not unusual for models to live on well beyond their official death in off-shore markets. The original Jeep lived on for many years that way because the design was licensed to a lot of manufacturers. Willey's Overland and later AMC lived off the royalties for a lot of years. Volkswagen was also famous for it. VW was still in joint license agreements for the manufacture of the original Beetle as late as the early 90's in central and South America.

That looks like a much more dated concept than 2009. I'd guess something like a 2003.

Mitsubishi was building "Jeeps" with the original Willys wagon body in to the 1990's. This is nothing new, to sell discontinued American models to other manufacturers world wide. The Jeepster Commando surfaced in Spain in the late 1970's. They were still building new Wagoneers in Mexico no too long ago.

That's a Chinese built 2500 model Jeep from a few years ago. I believe they had a model 3500 Jeep also.

Gorgeous... :notworthy:

Wish they would do it but no way. Not in the next 5 years, definitely. Never, probably. :(

Its nice. I never understood why they got rid of the Cherokee. The Liberty wasn't a real replacement.

Ok, from, what I found out online, that's the Jeep Cherokee they were selling in China up to a year or two ago. from what I gathered when they dropped the Cherokee in the states and Europe for the Lib, they gave a slight face lift to the Cherokee for sale in China with this face. Whether or not its true or not, I've read this in several other Jeep forums.

Reverse engineering at its best.

Mahindra made the CJ up until teh early 90s as well in India. And teh old beetle was still being produced in Mexico in 2000. This stuff happens all the time. But it doenst annoy me any less that a Chinese man can uy what is essentially a 2 year old cherokee iwth hardly any miles on it, whieli cant seem to find one under 80k.

To me, that would be the best looking vehicle on the road if it was available in the US. All Jeep had to do was upgrade the interior, upgrade the safety features, and give it a more efficient engine. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Essentially, what you have is a permanent hard top Wrangler Unlimited with Selec-Trac, and a lower center of gravity.

Personally, it burns me every time I see a picture of this vehicle.

You know I hated what they did to the Cher a few years back when they redid the liftgate. You got a classic Jeep window design on the profile, then have what looks like a liftgate and window stolen off of a Voyager. That rear window looked completely out of place. And WTF was up with taking out the wing window on the forward doors?

I hated that too. I was looking closely at them to see if I bought one, if I could add the older, squarer, parts back on to it. Jeep has a history of spending a ton of money redesigning vehicles for the final 2 years of production.

Willys wagon, redesigned the windows, heating system, and engine in the final 2 years.

Jeepster Commando: Totally different front end sheet metal. New fender wells in the back. new tailgte. 3 new engine options.

Wagoneer, total redesign of the dashboard in the final years.

Of course, look how many years the Wagoneer was in production. But also note how many of those Jeeps were built by Kaiser, and AMC as well. We hadn't seen much of that with the Chrysler owned Jeep brand though.

The Wagoneer was on the market for 29 years. Chrysler manufactured it for the last 5 years.
