Here's some photos of my Patriot (picked it up last week). Even though my family has been a "Jeep Family" for generations (starting with my Grandfather and his '55 Willys Wagon), this is my first Jeep. (Suzuki Samurais don't count... :D )
Limited 4x4 with all the extras... it was the first one that the local dealer received and they made a nice offer on my trade-in ('05 Scion xB) that I couldn't resist.

Looks awesome! I really like the green. How do you like the ride & handling, interior materials, etc.?

Does it have the CVT? If so, what are your impressions of that?

I like the green too! It is more of an olive green than Army green of my brother's Willy's Wrangler.

Keeping in mind that my previous vehicle was a 5spd Scion xB....
The ride is excellent. The suspension is just a slight bit softer than the Scion... just enough to soften the ride. It doesn't feel mushy at all. But it does feel comfortable. Handling is bit more truck-like than the Scion without compromising control. It rides great on the highway and I'm sure will make a great highway cruiser on the open Arizona highways.

The interior is way too fancy for my tastes in Jeeps... but I think I can deal with it. ;) I'd break 7 major laws to get an instrument cluster that is centered on the dash like the old CJ and Wagons. :D

The standard stereo includes an aux jack. There's an opening right below the stereo head unit (probably where an optional component would go) that is just perfect for placing my mp3 player.

The laundry list of features is way too long to list, but I have to say that for a 4x4 vehicle costing $22,000 it is an outstanding value. (assuming longterm quality)

The documentation on transmission options is a bit squirrely... All I know is that I do have CVT.

The CVT drives a bit differently than I'm used to... the tach moves differently than I'm accustomed to. Acceleration is quicker than I realize because of how differently the engine responds. Once I pass the break-in period I'll be in a better position to run it through its paces. All-in-all, I'm delighted with it.

Here are some interior pix... courtesy of my salesman. (He took over 30 pix and emailed them to me so that I could see what it actually looked like):

And despite recent attempts - the Jeep thing isn't contagious (you'll see other brands with bumper stickers refering to the Jeep thing)

Nice Patriot - thanks for the pictures too.

Thx for the pix. These are some of the better interior pics I've seen.

Looks like the rear headreasts are not removable. That kinda sucks. So far the one criticism that seems to be unanimious is poor rearward visibility. Do you find that the read headrests block your view, or that the rear window is too small?

no idea why they didnt choose pop-out headrests in the rear with such a small glass.

Cost was the only reason behind the decision... But if more and more people complain about the visibility out of the back window.

It shouldn't be too hard to take the front headrests and modify the rear seat to accept them as well in a later model year update.

More power to you if you can do that. After hearing about the Patriot back in November, it was difficult enough to wait the near 4 months to actually see one... and once I did, and drove it, I was hooked.

How would I know if I can't see them?

:D

Compared to my Scion xB, visibility is noticeably reduced. But I haven't noticed that the reduction in visibility has resulted in any greater blind spots. Maybe because the driver/passengers sit higher.

Welcome to the Jeep Family!

Thanks for sharing pics as well! I got basically the exact one as you, but don't have it yet...how do you like it? Did you go manual or auto?

Hi everyone,

When I test drove it, I realized that the headrests block some of the left and right side visibility, but Patriot has big mirrors.
Every vehicle has the same problem if it has headrests, I don't think it is good idea to use pop-out headrests (how about two adults seating in rear seats?).

What do you think?

Rottenbob

True, but an obstructed view can also be dangerous. The problem with pop-out headrests is that (a) you have to find a place to stash them and (b) you need to be able to easily locate them if you have impromptu backseat guests. I would prefer that there be a void in the middle of the rear seatback, over which the headrests sit (on poles). The headrests could recess into the void when not in use, so they need not obstruct your view. On the rare occasion when you have backseat guests, you can just pull them up (no need to look for them in the garage somewhere!).

This would work out well for someone like me. In the past ten years I've have backseat occupants twice, which averages out to once every 5 years. Not worth blocking my view for, is it? Having a headrest storage cavity in the rear seatback might make the rear seats less comfortable, though. But who cares? No one sits back there anyway (for the most part)!

The huge side mirrors make up for the visibility blocked by the headrests. Or if nobody is riding in the back, just fold the rear seat down. I drove my Cherokee for 2yrs without the rear bench and the rear back folded flat. Even sleep in the back a few times, with some couch cushions.

that's the JEEP GREEN I have ordered,I thought of black first but than I thought that if I get tired of black I'll be depressed but I know I'm not going to get upset with this classic Jeep colour.

I don't know if I could've been as patient as you and jpgrl are. I was fortunate enough to have been in contact with the local dealership for a few months before they received their first one (which is the one that bought). They were very helpful, called me when it came in, got locked in on the price (Costco deal), and gave me an acceptable amount for my trade-in.

If I had to wait 6-8 weeks for an order, I think that I would bust. I remember having to wait for my Suzuki Samurai (back in 1987) and I was climbing the walls for the 6 weeks it took.

I can tell you, that the wait is worth it.
