Im leaning towards 225/70-17 bfg a/t but concerned about the legal/ insaurance side of it all. Aami say whatever vic roads approve but with a bit of research done i think it'll just make it.
Any thoughts ppl.

Pretty sure you can have whatever size, as long as the speed load rating is equal or better than OEM.

I'm looking at new tyres also, prob go with 225 65 17

there is a compliance label on one of the door frames, that states the max legal size in oz, when i got my mickey thompsons i had trouble getting them fitted because alot of tyre places will not fit non legal sizes...it also can cause issues with your insurance, trust me i am now with shannons paying more because of my mods

Hi zbee, do you get any rubbing at full lock or when bouncing and turning off road with that size rubber ?

full lock at front a bit of rubbing, and if i am a little agressive on roguh stuff the occasional nasty sounding grind at the back...but apart from that traction etc offroad is superior, and they look great :)

The max legal tyre size on the Patriot in AUS is 225/60/17 [anything else puts you over the +15mm OD limit], I don't know how you dodge that bullet zbee! If you get caught with 245/70/17 you'll get defected on the spot, and then have to go through the effort of fitting something legal for a post inspection to have the defect notice removed. The only good thing is that Patriots don't really get a second look from the cops, but if you're seen offroading, it's another story...

Well, I wish you continued good luck to you there, then. I would love 235/70R17 if I thought I could get away with it. But since I can get Yoko Geolandars in 225/60R17, it's not even really worth spending extra on 16" wheels to save on tyres.

Oh, I guess we could acquire a FDII US tyre placard with 215/65R17 tyre rating on it? That way the AUS +15mm limit could go a little further. ;) IE: 245/60R17 [if such a thing exists] or 225/65R17 max AUS legal.

Yeah mate, sure thing. Since you're from Ippy, are you with River 94.9? Did you do the Ipswich show this weekend gone?
