I drive on dirt roads and was wondering if anyone has cleaned the engine compartment yet. If so what did you use?

I used a vacuum to start, then a couple damp rags.

You can also carefully cover all the sensitive areas with plastic bags (fuse box, air intake ect.) then gently spray it down, however you would need to know what to avoid.

Prevention can really help too. I placed rubberized weather stripping along the crack between the hood and front grill. In addition adding aluminum window screening between the radiator and front grill helps keep road spray entering the engine compartment to a minimum.

I haven't cleaned my Compass engien bay yet, but I ahve used Simple Green in a spray bottle before as well as CD2 Engine Cleaner/Detailer kit. Keep water from electronics/air intake.

Engines can get wet.. i have always used soap and water, just like washing the outside of the car. Then i dry it off with towels and use armorall on the engine cover, fuse box, and battery.

You can spray it with water just be sure teh engine is cool when you do so to prevent cracking of the block or head...
