Sometimes when I accelerate from a complete stop my 07 Patriot feels like its doing the skidding from Nintendo 64's Mario Kart (the ESP light even comes on in certain cases) Has anybody else experienced this?

ps. My jeep has these thin tires made from handling and they are a little bald, So I am thinking a simple tire change is all it takes.

Tires could be a big part of the issue. Especially if youre on a wet or sandy surface. Even that loose gravel that collects at intersections can cause some wheel spin. It also depends on your driving. If your tires are going bald a little, you have a few rocks under the tires, and youre flooring it at every take off, its gonna spin I would think:) So I think that tires should be your first thing to look into, because even with loose surface under you, a good tire with proper tread should have no issue.

I'm guessing traction is your problem. Tires or maybe your to skinny and don't weigh the Patriot down. I guess this could be both a good and bad thing!:D

I agree with the other guys that it's most likely your tires. I used to have a 2001 impala which I liked to race at green lights. Right before I got new tires my car would shutter and not accelerate much unless i slowly eased on the gas. The reason being is my tires had little tread left on them.

Get some new tires and I bet it will go away.

Im surprised a Patriot can lose traction on Tarmac. I have tried full throttle starts up hill in the wet with esp off and it can barely spin the wheel. Although mine is AWD.

if i am turning at all why accelerating from a stop, ie after backing out the driveway then going forward on the road, if i hit the gas at all a little to hard, and perhaps a little to much clutch, they spin... i have 245/65/17s and yes they spin... and they arent even half way through yet, still got plenty of rubber

easy on the gas, get some new rubber

I've found that even if it's a bit foggy, the stock tires (Wrangler) on my 2009 PAT broke loose if you looked at them funny. I put real car tires on instead of these fake off-road tires and it's night and day.

I totally agree that the original Goodyear Wrangler tires were prone to breaking loose on my 08 4x2. Initially it was only a problem when the street was wet and if I really got on the gas, but by the time the tires had @ 30k miles on them I had to be careful on sharp curves when the streets were dry, and if the road was wet I had to literally drift around because the slightest acceleration would put me into a slide. I actually got pretty adept at it and kind of enjoyed it, but I also knew it wasn't safe in an emergency situation. My daughter had just turned 16 at the time, and I would not let her drive the vehicle when I wasn't in the car with her, and if the roads were wet no one drove it but me.

I replaced the original tires with four Yokohama Geolander A/T-S, and the difference was amazing. I've got about 30k miles on the Yokohamas now, and if I try I can make the tires spin on wet pavement or going uphill from a stop, but I have to try to make it happen (whereas before there was no way to stop it).
