As per title: Does anyone have Pics (or links to pics) of the complete standard engine bay of a 2.0 CRD please.

I bought the Pat pre-owned from a dealer and seem to have a lot of black insulation tape on a hose under the bonnet and wonder if its supposed to be there (or if it's a dealer botch job).

Any help appreciated.

Err.. Funnily enough it doesn't :) What happened to that? Is it mud or did something blow?

Anyway I think I need to find a higher res pic than that.

I'll try to post my taped-up pipe/cable so that someone can tell me if it's supposed to be like that.

Is it this bit of convoluted tubing on the right hand side of the engine bay (looking from the front)?

Yes Dane, that's the one! Mine seems to have more tape on it than that though. Including some further down the pipe itself.

Do you happen to know what the function of that part/pipe is please?

That is a wire harness. The tape keeps the convoluted tubing together to protect the wires. You could safely remove all of the tape, then re-tape nice and neat if you like.

Not 100% sure but it might be the 'transmission control module'. I'm still new to this and finding my way around.

The convoluted tubing is just to protect the wiring loom underneath so the tape is no big deal i.e. not a bodge hopefully. I need to re tape mine.

Where abouts in the Midlands are you?

Ah OK, Thanks I'll take another look at it when I get some time.

I'm up in Wolves.

A bit rough. Looks like an extra bit of cabling added. For what? Who knows.

I take it eveything functions as it should?

BTW I'm in Coventry.

definitely an add-on.
do you have a aftermarket alarm system by any chance?
or maybe a installed tow bar or.i don't know, something electric installed aftermarket.maybe fog lamps?

As far as I'm aware everything functions as it should. I did have a flat battery a couple of weeks ago, but I put that down to leaving the car on airport car-parks during the past couple of dark months (frequent business trips).

I don't seem to have any after-Market equipment installed.

But there again I'm not very knowledgable about what equipment is standard and what isn't.

Does anyone know what the unit is that the cables/corrugated pipe go into?

It's kind of hard to see right now but I also have that cable you have coming out of the conduit at the bottom of the pic. Looks to be either a heavy gauge ground (or +12v) cable. Mine is just more concealed. The unit has a tag riveted on with 05187120AA and I think it may be the ECM. Don't think you need to worry. Just cosmetic hopefully.

Thanks Dane,

Just for clarification what's an ECM? Is it Electronic Control Module or something?

Also what does it do?

05187120AA - Stud plate ,Control Module = a plate that holds the ECM-electronic control module on ECD-code for diesel engine vehicles.

that's what the parts catalogue says.

lower part is identical, and tape is a bit dried-up.
needs replacing one sunny and warm day.probably in spring as it goes unde DIY.

Good Lord! They hold parts of the diesel together with gaffer tape? You should go to your local Home Depot and buy some in a complimentary color. Perhaps 2 colors. Then find a friend who has handlebar-wrapping experience to do a 2-roll weave for you.
