I should have asked this well before our purchase, but does the Compass seem to fall prey to the issues of the Patriot ie; flappin' hood, dome light water issues, etc?

Since the Compass doesn't sell as well as the Patriot, and many Compass owners don't seem to feel that they belong here (just my own opinion, based on the name of the forum), we don't seem to get as many complaints from Compass owners who do join and stay. I also own a Compass and the only complaint I can report is that there are a few very, very small air bubbles in the passenger window tint film the dealership installed prior to our purchase. Other than that, I have not had any other problem, such as a flapping hood, leaking dome light, etc...

The "leak", "hood flap" and "pulling" issues appear to be primarily a Patriot problem. I belong to a Caliber Forum and 2 other Jeep Forums, one has a sub-forum for MK's Technical issues and the other is dedicated to JeepMK's (it's a new just started up).

I have had 2 leaks from my front dome like. I had the sun roof in "vent" position at work when we had a sudden down pour and it took a few minutes to go out and close it. It leaked one other time and upon inspection I found some leaves laying in the top rails. That's all in the 22 months and 30K miles that I've had mine. I'll also add that I've had mine threw car washes and some really mean downpours here at home (WI), going threw Okla and also down in Tucson.

I've had the MIL light stay on for about 3 days, checked everything including the gas cap several times but it went out by itself the next time that I filled up. The wife just had the same problem on her Grand Cherokee, the MIL came on for about 3-4 days and then turned off, no explanation for it.

I've had a tire pressure sensor that was reading the wrong tire. For whatever reason it didn't want to reset after rotation.

I love my Compass and I'm really surprised at some of the problems that the Patriot owners are having. Many of the issues that have come up on the Compass have been very isolated.

I've had my Compass for about 6 months now and have put 14K miles on it. No mechanical problems other than a squeak that comes from the front edge of the sunroof when I tilt it up hot. (The rubber gasket is sticking and pinching. I need to treat it with something to keep it slippery when hot...) No leaks.

All in all, the reliability has been quite good and it has taken quite a pounding on the roads around here.

I am taking it in to get the alignment checked on Saturday as it now seems to pull ever so slightly to the right.
Might have had something to do with the pot hole from hell that I hit.

No flappin hood- the curve of the head lamp bulges that are stamped into the hood make it stiffer than the Patriot hood.

The rear washer line on the Compass enters on a surface that is nearly vertical to the side of the hatch opening as opposed to the horizontal entry at the top of the Patriot hatch opening. The water will just run by the Compass washer line instead of sitting in the line grommet as it does on the Patriot.

The only issue I have is with the CVT when cold and climbing a hill it will rev a bit, go to a higher ratio, lug the motor, go back to the lower ratio and repeat. Once it is warm- about 15 minutes at moderate speed this behavior stops. It is a minor annoyance and I know the dealership can't do anything about it since it is most likely a quirk in the PCM or TCM programming.

There is nothing wrong with my wife's Compass.

My sister has an 07 Compass and she hasn't had any problems with it.

No issues here, but only 5k miles and no sunroof.
