Hex Rivnuts and T-Nuts.

http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x51/Gramps_album/Skid%20Plates/Hardware1a.jpg

The Hex Rivnuts that I have are $1.30 U.S. each. '07 MK will need 3 for the front skid plate and 3 for each of the fuel tank skid plates for a total of 9.

As of 5/26/08 I will also have the T-Nuts (pop rivets included) for the center and rear Engine Skid plate. You will need 4 of the T-nuts @ $1.30 each.

'08 MK's: as far as I've been able to determine they still take 6 Hex Rivnuts for the fuel tank skid plates. On the Engine skid plate some have checked and found that the 3 holes in the very front are round. You may be able to you the T-Nuts in those locations. You will need to determine this for yourselves.

Quick update for 2009's:

The 2009 patriot awd has the hex holes everywhere except the front 3 holes. They are very large in diameter and the T-nut is a recommended route. With the skid plate OFF, there is an access hole to place a t-nut inside the sheet metal tube. Rivet them facing upwards. Try and use strong T-nuts or else DO NOT TORQUE the skid plate bolt... you may break the T-nut since it is not flush. A washer between the frame and T-nut may help but will interfere with rivets. That's my piece of advice. Also try and make the nut as center to the hole as possible or you may potentially screw up the hole spacing with the front skid. The hex's are easy with the right hardware.

Job time: 1 hr with the right hardware, lying under the unjacked vehicle on a driveway with the right tools, hardware and beer brand. - OR much much longer with stripped holes in your unibody if you used the wrong tools/hardware and/or wrong beer brand.
