Anybody yet looked into putting the 18" wheels from a Compass on a 4x4 5sp Patriot? Will that work? Any downside? Thanks in advance.

yes, it will work.
Downside? - can you get the tire tread pattern you want in a 18"?

tires have threads?

if so, what kind of pattern? plaid? stripes? herringbone? maybe a nice polka-dot will be best for your Patriot.......:icon_rolleyes:

Yes. I ordered mine with the compasswheels. Got 235-55-18 wintertires for them. They cost "only" 1700 usd...

they'll fit no problem. you'll just not have basically any selection in a/t tires.

Thanks Thomas, that's the look I wanted to see. $1700 is a little steep so I'll keep looking at options.

Thomas, that looks awsome.. those are nice. I guess that's a nice advantage to special ordering the car! Most dealerships won't change anything on cars on the lot unless just to hook you up with after market stuff on top.

I'd love to see a rear (width) shot of those 235/55s .. I did not know you could go that wide.. Any rubbing? they stick out any? What kind of MPG are you getting?

was that $1800 an upgrade cost?

I paid about $900 for these rims and tires after market.. still have my Steels and Eagles at home.. some guy bought them for his 94 Cherokees.. but could not fit them cause of the center hole in and came back asking for cash back. If they would have been a bit nicer I would have just painted them black instead.

Thanks.

I have a Compass with those wheels that I really like. Those and the 17" Patriot wheels are my favorite. All MK wheels are interchageable and I bet the PM/Caliber as well.

Check around on Ebay as I saw a set go for something like $500 shipped once.

Downside is that they probably weigh more than the 17" aluminum wheels and tires can get pricey quickly. For an on-road tire, the Hydryoedge (http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=295-545) looks the best, a bit larger than stock size. More weight = more wear on brakes/suspension and lower FE.

And...

The tires alone did cost 1700 usd. The dealer wanted 1000 usd for the rims. Hehe, pretty expensive option - but it looks good!

There are no rubbing or downsides. Milage are hard to say as it sits on wintertires. I use aprox 0,1-0,2 liter pr 10 kms more in the winter anyway with a lot of idle and sideways action. I have 18"s in the summer too.

If consumption was my primary consern, Id rather buy something else - like an Insight or a VW polo bluemotion. (Like thats EVER gonna happen!) Diesel doesnt cost more than 10-11 usd a gallon over here...

Cyberpine: Damn you! Just got my Patriot in black w/ the 17" wheels, and now I already want to "upgrade"! Great looking truck. Something I'll have to keep in mind for down the road. Glad to see a Patriot with the Yakima Lowrider mounts; that's 1st on my list so I can keep my bars and ski/bike mounts. Guess my Q towers won't be needed for now. Thanks for putting up pics.
