Hello all,
New UK Patriot owner here (07 2.0 CRD LTD). Loving it so far.
Can anyone explain how to reset the Average MPG setting on the EVIC please?
When I hold down the button to try to reset the Av MPG, the display doesn't zero out, it just starts incrementing tenths of a gallon. Eventually It ends up showing some ridiculous numbers like 8.8 MPG etc etc. Until I jab the button furiously to try to get back to some sensible setting.
Obviously I don't understand what I'm doing and how it works. Can some enlighten me and explain the zeroing procedure please?
Thanks

It's my understanding that you can't reset the EVIC mpg to zero. The system just keeps monitoring your mileage as an ongoing process.

Oh OK.. Do you know why the MPG numbers start slowly counting down please?

I can reset mine.
I just hold in the button on the average and it will reset. But if you do it while moving, it will just show your instant. If you do it while stopped, you will see it go to zero.
I have a 2008 FD1...might be different on other models/years?

it's all to do with weighted averages !
if your avg says 30mpg and that average has been taken over the last 1000miles, then you doing a very leisurely 100 mile trip at say 35mpg really won't change things
once you press the reset button, it still says 30mpg but if you are doing the above 35mpg it will start moving towards 35mpg because your average is moving to 35mpg (if that makes any sense)
like if your average speed over the last 1000miles was 30mph and you travelled at 70mpg for an hour, your average won't really change, but if you reset the clock as you are travelling 70mph, your average quickly gets up there
i think :)

Blimey! Sounds complicated. Guess I'll just continue to randomly jab at the button until something meaningful is displayed. :)
Thanks for the replies all.

Oncr you've filled up just press and hold the button until it changes. About 1-2 seconds. It will show more or less the same as it was then, once you set off it will drop until you start driving again and it will change much morerapidly until it settles down with a few miles under your belt. I have an 08 CRD.

OK thanks Steveo, that explanation seems to be what I experienced when pressing the EVIC button.
