: Compass more a Jeep than the Patriot!
Most people hate the Compass styling. I, too, have questions for the styling department about 5 years ago. These same people claim the Patriot looks more like a Jeep, comparing its styling to the iconic Jeep Cherokee XJ. Well, someone on another forum mentioned the similarity of the Compass to the AMC Eagle, which hit the market before the XJ. It seems the Compass is going down the smae path as the XJ. In Production first, uglier, and fewer sales than the Patriot. Never-the-less, still a Jeep.

I actually don't care if the Compass has a Dodge or Jeep or Chrysler nameplate. The vehicle I got for the price I paid is outstanding. Nothing else could touch it for even $5k more (except Patriot, but that would still be $2k more).
UPKEV 05-06-2008, 01:00 PM I guess it is vaguely similar. I wonder if it was intentional?
I have no idea. They are both ugly (Eagle & Compass) IMHO. Just poking fun at myself.
JoeBecker 05-06-2008, 02:41 PM I don't know, I think that those bike like spoke rims are gonna make a comeback. Spoke dubs! Wonder if they got anything like that at the Rent-N-Roll yet?
OnRoad 05-18-2008, 04:14 PM Hey, I liked the Eagles of that era. They were built like tanks!
As for the style comparison, I think the Journey crossover looks far more like the Eagle wagon.
As for the "ugly" tag, well ... to each their own. At least it isn't a nondescript box on wheels...
Dawson 05-18-2008, 05:37 PM Awesome. My mom's Eagle caught on fire on her about a mile from my house one night. She got a ride back to our place with some guy who told her it was flaming from the bottom, and my dad, being a firefighter, got back to the scene and put it out before the local fire department arrived! Anyway, got rid of it the next day and bought a Caravan.
jeep_creeper 05-18-2008, 08:45 PM I was just thinking about this the other day, how the Compass sorta reminded me of the old Eagle.
Jeepin' 05-19-2008, 03:21 PM Too funny. True too. :pepper:
Walkeraviator 05-19-2008, 03:43 PM Actually i think it is blasphemy to compare any vehicle to something as cool as the Eagle. My Grandfathers Eagle is still in teh family, and i cant convince my cousin to sell it to me.
jepstr67 05-19-2008, 05:07 PM Compass, living in the shadow and footsteps of greatness. LONG LIVE AMC!
Dmentd_Dan 05-19-2008, 07:10 PM The best thing about AMC is that it kept Jeep and Harley alive, oh that and I loved my 92 Eagle Talon!

ok, all this wonderful talk about AMC and THEN you have to bring up "Diamond Star Motors".
Dmentd_Dan 05-19-2008, 07:42 PM I used to live next to the plant in bloomington/normal illinois. They brought alot of good paying jobs to my area.... That, and I loved that car... :)
DarbyWalters 05-20-2008, 01:19 PM I used to drive the Hornet Sportabout like the first pic...had the 304 V8 in it...surprised amny of my high school friennds with that one.
DarbyWalters 05-20-2008, 01:20 PM I used to drive the AMC Hornet Sportabout (1971) like the first pic...had the 304 V8 in it...surprised many of my high school friends with that one.
AbqPatriot 05-20-2008, 01:24 PM The Jeep Eagle was a great vehicle. I think the Compass is a fine descendant of the Eagle! AMC!!!
IowaEagle 08-20-2010, 06:31 AM Everything you want to know about the Eagle as this little web site of mine. http://forums.amceaglenest.com/index.php
In reality the Jeep XJ was the first direct descendant of the AMC Eagle. AMC and Roy Lunn used the Eagle as their test bed for the feasibility of a unitized body and 4WD. When scavenging for parts XJ's and Grand Wagoneers supply a lot.
Harley was not AMC for a while. Harley belonged to AMT, the bowling equipment and other stuff company.
todde702 08-20-2010, 08:42 AM My 80 something year old neighbor has a blue and wood grained AMC Eagle that looks almost new. He drives it almost everyday. Everything still works including the A/C. Personally, I always thought they were great vehicles.
joesjeeps 08-20-2010, 09:35 AM Harley was not AMC for a while. Harley belonged to AMF, the bowling equipment and other stuff company.
Fixed. :)
darthschrader 08-20-2010, 10:59 AM I always thought eagles were cool, and I still see quite a few on the streets, in great shape too!
wpeck2 08-29-2010, 06:48 PM Before it was the Concord or Eagle, AMC called the bodies the Hornet and Sportabout. I had a '73 Sportabout with a six stick. It was cheap to operate and reliable. At 156K the cowl rusted out due to salt/slush getting in the air intake .and rainwater poured down the firewall. My wife wanted another one to replace it and I couldn't find one. Everyone ran them into the ground as I did. I believe Chrysler didn't want AMC cars, just the Jeep brand.

I am kind of partial to the Jeep Patriot being called a brick on wheels.:D
