pdxbubba,
There have been numerous articles quoting Chrysler reps saying the Patriot will likely start out less than the Compass -- although I'd be surprised if it's any more than $500 less. I am assuming the trail rated version will be more expensive than the Compass, though -- because of the improved off-road gearing and a better 4wd system.
So the Compass starts at, $15,985. Upgrading to 4wd ups the price to $18,435. The "E" package (AC, power windows, power locks, fold flat front seat) starts at $20,185. Add another $1000 to that for the CVT2 transmission. Putting in cruise control ups the price to ~ $21,500. I would assume those are the most popular options people would get. The Compass limited is 22,890 with 4wd and CVT2.
So an equivalent Patriot would probably be ~$21,000 (and the Limited around 22,500). I would guess Jeep would charge an extra $1000-$15000 for the trail-rated version.
So the bottom line is that I would expect the trail rated Patriot to be around 22-24k.

I hope that the base trail rated Patriot still comes in under the $20K mark...
I think that they could really sell a ton more at that price break. It would sure make it a lot easier to buy one.
I would opt for to forego the A/C, fold flat seats, etc for a more trail capible model at a better price!
Once you get up near the mid 20's, I think more people will jump over to the new 4dr wranglers. Even if they are the base Wrangler 4 doors.
