: chipping CRD... anyone done it?

I am enjoying my 09 CRD LTD and have sorted out all the niggles like the low energy headlamps supplied as new and the tyres that don't work on snow.... BUT I find that 2nd gear is really lacking in torque, so that unless careful, coming to a junction and not quite stopping but not going into first gear runs the risk of stalling. It's a bit weird cos higher up the range you can do just about anything in 3rd, 4th 5th or 6th! Does a remap cure the 2nd gear issue? If so, who does the best remap? Anyone any experience of this???

i used to stall all the time trying to set off a bit too slow in 2nd - that's gone now we've covered 20000k's - do you still have low miles on your pat?

There's a guy. www.mustangshire.com said he could do it for around £350.00. He's based in Chalfont St.Giles Bucks. He has a well sorted Wrangler.

I managed to adapt in the end ,but my one little niggle was 1st too low away from the lights & 2nd too high away from the lights without slipping the clutch. In the end I just short shifted from 1st to 2nd. Yea but chipping will give you usable power throughout the rev range!!

There was a poster on here who got the official Jeep diesel power chip for £300 instead of the official £1100. I guess Jeep are trying to get rid of these chips now the new 2.2crd is coming in. Make sure you tell your insurance company if you re-chip.

I thought the diesel was meant to have loads of torque? Maybe there is something wrong with your engine?

The chip solution from Jeep sounds interesting. The torque is all at the top end, as tiptronic mentions, it's really just the 2nd gear set up that is a pain

cheers

there is a simple plug in module you can get off ebay for about £25 it increases power by about 40 hp if anyone has tried one let us know how you got on with it.

Here's a bright side for you: You diesel guys have a 6 spd, while we in the US are stuck with a 4spd. Sure they call it a 5spd, but you can ask anyone here and theyll tell you 4th is just for show:) has no power or torque in 4th gear and most down shifting is 5-3:) hope you all get your issues ironed out though! Best of luck.

No £25 Snake oil power module advertised on ebay has ever worked!!! Stay away from them , petrol or diesel, unless you want to wreck your' engine.

I'm totally with Tip on this one. My mate has a LandRover Disco that he's tried a pirate chip in. It cost him to have it installed, it cost him while it was in and, like a tattoo, it cost him to have it removed. E-Bay is the modern covered wagon with the drop-down sides.
