yea when you pop the rear hatch, its underneath the big black plastic piece that looks like diamond plate. You just pull up on it and its very easy to get to.

Sounds like a great place to put it.

Of course it means you will only get a flat when your cargo area is filled to capacity. ;)

That sounds about right! The spare on my Liberty is hanging off the back for really easy access and I've never needed it. If/When I switch to the Patriot, I'll get a flat when I've got the back fully loaded with camping gear and the sail boat all hooked up.

I think it is a given that the aftermarket will develop an external carrier like the Wrangler or liberty.

Am I correct to assume that the full sized spare tire and wheel fit back there, not just the compact spare?

When I saw it in person, there seemed to be room to spare.

You know on most Jeeps the only spare tire you see is mounted directly behind the steering wheel.

Yes, $120 option IIRC. Comes with full size spare mounted on a steel wheel.

You can add a roof basket and haul the spare there.

Hilarious, don't know how I missed that before.

Everyday i get more confused with DC. When i ordered my sport 4x4 at the beginning of the month, i ordered a full size spare and it was available as an option. Now i look at the web site and they don't show an option for a full spare other than when you order the off-road package. I don't know what i'm going to get.

I believe the off-road group comes standard with the full size spare.

when i build on Canadian site full size spare is still there as an option.

its 175 Canadian, i think the US equivalent was 120 US.

but hrmm. yeah. checked the uS site and they removed it....

I wonder if anything other than the trail rated doesn't have space for full size? and jeep put it as an option as a mistake. just like heated mirros....

or maybe it was removed for some other reason dunno.

someone with a normal sport or limited will know :D

does it come with a matching tire on just a steel wheel?
