JeepJim 04-23-2008, 02:08 PM Should be interesting I know the Volant CAI for the dodge v-8's were pretty good. Please keep us informed.
nebcarson 04-23-2008, 03:35 PM what about a snorkel for deep water......thare's a challenge....
gdasher 04-23-2008, 04:05 PM Well I wasn't thinking snorkel, but are they going to try and keep the intake higher under the hood so that it doesn't negatively affect the water forging capabilities?
cadavev 04-23-2008, 04:54 PM I am not 100% sure i know i have there intake on the silverado and the avalanche and they all have the down scoop and i have been through water with both and the filters never got wet yet.
ilterzo84 04-23-2008, 10:19 PM just the company i've been waiting for. a true cold air box, and possibly a good scoop systems to get cold to the filter.
cadavev 04-24-2008, 10:21 AM they do make the best of my gm trucks and now that i got the pat they are finally ready to do one stay tuned..
ilterzo84 04-26-2008, 11:54 PM ok what is the projected time-frame for us to see it in production? i know you said next week is test fitting, but what about after that? what kind of time are they projecting after that?
Sgtarky 04-29-2008, 02:49 AM I dont think they do anything noticable, and in fact if it improved gas milage or hp I think they would come from the factory with them. but to each his own.

it has already been established that the factory system is a compromise between sound (the less the better in the factory case), hp and mileage. the engineers sacrifice some hp and mileage to keep it quiet. after-market companies dont worry about how loud it is, just that it makes more power and improves mileage.
cadavev 05-12-2008, 02:19 PM Well update for you all the test fitting did not go as well they are going to have to make a new box and that is in the works so it will still be a while.
JeepJim 05-12-2008, 02:28 PM That sucks, but thanks for the update.

ilterzo84 09-09-2008, 10:29 PM they dont have time to do it? to me that says they dont care about us.

I plan to install K&N 63-1552 A/C on my Patriot 2008, so I contacted them. Here is their answer:
"Thanks for contacting K&N. Our air intake systems are very vehicle
specific so we can not make the recommendation for for a kit that's not
designed for a designated vehicle. You are more than welcome to try to
kit out for yourself but when you do this, you'll no longer have the K&N
comprehensive warranty. As for the lift. What you have is a suspension
lift. The Jeep Patriot is an uni-body vehicle so you can not install a
body lift on it. Most body lifts will throw the mounting of the kit off
since the body is lifted from the frame. Therefore you'll be ok as far
as that goes. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks and have a nice day."
I am puzzled why do they not include Patriot on their compatible charts (only Caliber and Compass are officially tested). Love to get some feedback before I order my K&N. How about that warranty... and of course Chrysler warranty is another issue...

its kinda funny to me that people use the "economic crisis" as an excuse. its funny to me since my investments are growing and i'm earning more moeny than i was last year. the fact that a company started r&d means they have the money for it. then they just stop, imho somebody is lining their pocket with the money that was intended for r&d. maybe its because valant is smaller than K&N that they are unable to finish the r&d that they started, but then again somebody is taking the golden parachute with r&d money.

I don't see why it wouldn't work for a Patriot. It's basically the same engine under the hood.

it is the same if u have the 2.0 or 2.4.
petbug 09-30-2008, 04:43 AM Thank you all for the answers, I have sent K&N another email, don't think it is going to change anything. They need to try it on the car! Thanks Gramps for the link to posts. I would take my Patriot to K&N, but I an just too far for me(Vancouver). So PLEEEEEASE someone closer - volunteer you Pat for the free installation at their R&D department and Riot will be on the list.
prank213 07-03-2009, 12:40 AM so what ever happen with the volant cai

I can say this much... they seem to be looking for volunteer Patriots to try the CAI out on as per their "Vehicles needed" listing for testing (Calif. only). It says from June-Dec. 2008 but it's still listed as of a year later... so who knows...

pmattscheck 11-11-2009, 12:30 AM Installed the K&N Aircharger (part# 63-1552) today. Sounds good and has more mid range pull. It adds more torque steer in the corners when accelerating hard. Just what I need, should be fun in the snow this winter. I had the K&N drop in filter prior, but the CAI makes a big differance over that. K&N claims 7.9 added HP. It feels like it on my first run after installing it. It took longer to install than expected. I ran into a couple of areas where I could hardly get my hards in to attach it to the Throttle Body. Also this kit was not designed to work with a Patriot with the Mopar Strut Tower Brace. I has to modify the Heat Shield the kit came with to make it fit. I'm glad I decided on the K&N anyway, it is made very and it looks, sounds and feels great.
