Hello from the UK, hope everbody is OK. Wonder if any body out there can help me.The original tyres on my 2009 CRD are about ready for replacement and Im looking for somthing with an "all terrain" type tread pattern.I dont think there are many out there in the correct size.
The only ones that come close are the Pirrelli Scorpion ST, but these look more road biased to me. I want a tyre that will fit the standard wheel with no mechanical work such as lift kits etc. Also one that is available in the UK.
Cheers, Muddy

Been looking for tyres myself and have decided on the Yokohama Geolanders ATS, 225/65/17. From what I can make out on the forum there should be no rubbing issues with these.

We are having these fitted to my 59 plate patriot, and going by what I have been reading there should hopefully be no rubbing.

I'll let you know how my Fullrun budget tyres do in the winter. So far I'm really pleased with them and at £90.00 a corner too.

I'm having some Scorpion STRs fitted tomorrow as I'm not likely to do too much off roading. I'm betting they have better snow capability than the PremiumContact 2 tyres that are on it now. Had those on my Caliber and they were not good at all. I'll probably just keep the PremiumContacts in the shed until I sell the Patriot and have them put back on again if it needs new tyres by then.

Me too! I'm guessing there are a lot of 215/60 R17 Premium Contacts in sheds around the country :D

I went up to 225/60 R17.
Upside - Looks better. Fills the wheelarch more convincingly, with plenty clearance.
In terms of subjective performance any pros and cons are marginal, other than offroad / winter capability will be improved at the cost of noise, longevity and dry road grip, depending on your tyre choice. You can get something more in keeping with the image. I think there is more choice available in 225/60-R17, the 215's are quite an unusual size for a 4x4.

Thanks for the input so far, I like the look of the geolanders, they look similar to the BF Goodridge all terrains which I had on my previous 4x4s, as you know, you cant get em in the right size Which is a shame as they were good on and off road and they seem to last forever. My biggest worry is that I spend £500 ish to have any new tyres fitted and find out they rub on full lock when the suspenion is fully compressed.

i got nokian wrg2 suv 100 xl from mytyres on the net delivered from germany in a couple of days no probs got them fitted locally, had them on for a month or so now they are great and getting better mpg than the contis as well, they are a very quiet tyre as well, and should wear great as treadwear is 500, traction a, temperature a, and snowflake on the mountain on sidewall, so should be great when bad weather comes, £102 per tyre free delivery and £40 to get fitted by the guy i always get my tyres from.

I recommend to use Goodyear, I'm using this one ever since and I got good experience on it...

I swear by Nokians... great all year round, and superb on snow. Lost patience with the continental standard tyres after last winter, and as we had snow yesterday in central scotland... looks like a rerun. I got Nokian WR G2 Sport Utility 225/60 R17 103V XL (Wi) from mytyres for £100 a wheel, and there is no way they are likely to rub with only 5mm extra on the inside.... Give em a go!

It is a real issue here in the UK. When you look worldwide there is a huge choice of tyre in the Patriot size, but, to the best of my knowledge, the only vehicle in wide supply over here in |Europe that has the same tyres is a BMW X3. There's no other.

I have kept continentals on but at £120 a corner at mates rates - looked elsewhere and just had 2 Nexen Mid Range fitted at £55 each from STS Tyres.

I didnt think of a different size and will look at that next time - I will let you know how they do in the snow which I am expecting to land soon.

I have fitted 215/17/60 Dunlop Sp Wintertyres. I use my Jeep to transport my working gundogs all over Exmoor and the Quantock Hills in Somerset. They are brilliant I checked the reviews from Germany where their tyre testing is the best and how right they were. My Patriot will go nearly as far as our guns in their 70 grand Range Rovers. The only drawback is ground clearance. Honestly, although they are winter tyres they are great in snow ice, rain and mud. They are have kept traction in all conditions. I will now look for good warmer weather tyres for the summer. The standard continentals are not much cop in my opinion.

I can vouch for "my tyres" I got my superb Dunlop Winter SP tyres from them. Three days from Germany to my door, great service.

My Fullrun budget tyres 245/45/19"s have been brilliant, even in the snow and ice we've had for the past week. I watched some twat in his Mini hit 2 of the kerbs while he was turning around the island outside my house, his wheels spinning and sliding all over the place and yet in normal driving mode my Pat was great.

By the way, I decided to go with the geolander ATS 225/65/17s after talking with "FUDZ" who had no rubbing problems, rang a few local dealers who had none in stock, they independantly rang Yokahama UK, and were all told that there are none in the UK until mid January due to the fact that they dont make many because it is such a little used size. doh!

We have had the tyres fitted for two weeks now and so far I have to say the Yukos are fantastic the car sits better with the larger tyre and the grip from them are miles ahead of the Contis that were on it.

Glad your happy, Best quote locally is £420 fitted, before the recent rise in VAT. If they are cheaper on line I would have to pay carriage+local fitting. looking forward to getting them and hopefully more snow to play in (I should know better at my age)

Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S G012
225/65r17

Will be going for these on my Patriot using Blackcircles as they are a local firm and always get a good price. I live in a rural area with a 30 mile commute in all weathers, have used these before and my father runs them on his Subaru Forester, superb in the snow and mud with an aggressive tread pattern but not too noisy on the road.

Only just got the Patriot as I previously had a Tucson as my commuting car but fuel consumption was atrocious. Admittedly for the really bad weather my Land Rovers are pressed into action but that is when the snow is nearly a foot deep!

Hi all. Looking to get Yoko Geolanders A/T-S G012 225/65/R17 fitted in the next couple of weeks, has anyone whose fitted these tyres had issues with rubbing etc ? I guess that as nobody has posted anything regarding this it's probably a no, but I just want to be sure before forking out 140 quid a corner.

Ta. :)

Can't comment on the Yokos I'm afraid, sorry

Might be a bit of an early posting but i'm hoping for another snow fuelled winter. I've just ordered 4 x Jeep OEM wheels for my Patriot and 4 x Vredestein WinTrac 4 Xtreme winter tyres. If its anything like last year I think these will help. The Scorpion STRs were better than the Contis for sure but still did not feel as "sure" as I'd expected.

Good morning,
I'm new to all this - just joined last night. I'm looking for a set of steel wheels so I can fit winter tyres and have them as separate. I've drawn a blank so far; have you any advice?

Hi Alison (Ali?) and welcome to the forum.

I can't help with the steel wheels. However I looked around the many recycling firms (scrappies) and managed to find three original wheels from one dealer and another separate wheel from another. Might be worth a look.

The other option is I think the actual tyre suppliers. I got my four Vredestein winter tyres from tyremen.co.uk and I think they can do tyre + steel wheel deals.

Cheers -Mark

...... just need some snow or sustained low temps now. Rarely dipping below 7-9 oC at the moment!

I hope these wheels/tyres are not going to sit in the garage unused this year! :-(

No worries. The wheels were around £65 each from the scrappies. The tyres were Vredestein Wintrac 4 Xtreme @ £135 each from tyremen.co.uk ......... you can see why I want some snow now! :-)

Cheers - mark
