Hello all,
I have a 2010 Patriot CRD. I don't use it as much as I should as I have a work vehicle. In fact there is only 2000 miles on it. I have started to notice a "clunk" felt through the steering when pulling away. It only does it a couple of times at the start of a journey, just wondering if anyone else had the same issue. Funnily enough before the Jeep I had a Caliber which had the same issue. That was checked and had nothing wrong.

Hi hscuff,

I was wondering when someone with a 2010 was going to have a similar problem. I start my car in the morning and as soon as I touch the steering to turn it left or right I get this "clunk" in the front suspension. Does it only once and will only repeat after it has sat for a few hours or overnight. I then have the metallic "twang" sound that is discussed in the link below. I took it in reluctantly knowing full well what the answer was going to be-"no fault found at this time". The sounds are still there and haven't gotten any worse. I'm waiting for the winter to see if having salt caked in there will make it more pronounced for the boneheads at the stealership to pick up. Let me know what you find out.

I have only done 2000Km on my 2010 Pat. I notice 3 times now only when i do a Full u turn i hear it clunk once. First i thought is my 20 by8.5 inch wheels are rubbing, i have checked many times it does not rub. Kind of worries me. as i never taken it off road

I think it is the brake disks binding after standing overnight. The clunk you hear is the brake freeing itself. You may notice it more after any damp weather or f you washed the car the day before.

Not the brake discs I think, certainly on mine, as it happens after reversing out of my drive and driving a mile or two. As I mentioned it was the same on my Caliber, which was the CRD, same basics as the Patriot. Never got to the bottom of it with the Dodge. They just don't like standing for a length of time.

Just wondered if anyone with the clunk found that it went away during the really cold weather? had a lot of snow around the area I live, and sub-zero temps for weeks. The clunk never happened once, but since the temp has risen has come back on occasion.
