Hey im new around here but i love the forum! so much useful information!

I know this might sound a bit funny but Im a mobile auto detailer and im questioning about detailing... Im only 17 and run a small car detailing business around my neighbor. but back to the problem. my brother bought his 09 brilliant black patriot used with 4,000 miles on it. i bought it from my brother with 9,000 miles on it. its practically new. but every since we got it i have not been able to get the swirl marks out of the black paint. I have a orbital and i used that with Clay bar, Swirl-X, Rubbing Compound, Polish, and then used NXT Tech Wax on top of it all. I mean it looks good. but its not that professional image i wanna give off driving to customers houses, and im OCD about it. If anyone has any tips please let me know :). And if anyone needs any detailing tips just send me a message i will be more than willing to help you out :) or if you wanna drive here and get your car detailed :D tehe.

Thanks guys i look forward to sticking around the forum :) :smiley_thumbs_up:

This is the biggest negative of owning something with a black paint job, black paint jobs show everything. For small touch up scratches use meguirs scratch-X it is a soft abrasive that will usually take of little scratches. For big scratches or swirl marks unfortunately the only thing that I guarantee will take out any imperfections is to have a buff job, where you lightly wet sand the entire vehicle and than go thru 3 levels of rubbing compound with a buffing pad. It takes a while and if you haven't done it before "don't" do it it must be done very carefully as to not burn through the paint. Sorry, but as i said its a negative of the black paint job.

Thanks for the help. I never invested in a real buffer I would always use a orbital and that does not work well with rubbing compounds ect... so i just ordered a Dewalt Polisher. Good for use on customers cars and hopefully i will be able to fix my swirls :). It just pisses me off cause my older brother (who i bought the patriot from) just bought a 2009 Grand Cherokee same color and it looks amazing... no swirls lol... envy kills! hopefully once i get this buffer I can get them out and make my car look brand spankin new!

Dewalts are good i am in autobody and i use an old dewalt. don't forget that the buffing pad should correspond to the grit compound you use. and if you buff it don't forget to keep the buffer moving no matter how deep the swirl. Keep it moving so that you do not burn through the paint, because that will suck, and from what I know original automobile paint jobs are relatively thin. good luck p.s to best thing to protect black paint is heavy Heavy coats of wax

Several friends with black paint jobs have recommended something called Turtle wax's Black Box is a couple step process to cleaning and protecting black paint on the regular.
