I am planning a trip to SW UT and the North Rim, in early May. The plan includes a night at Toroweap overlook, and on the map the best exit looks like the Mt. Trumbull Road (BLM road 1069/Mohave County road 5). Has anyone driven that road between Tuweep and I15? Any info or recent road conditions would be greatly appreciated.

OK just to follow up for anyone who might be interested, this road (http://tinyurl.com/3odobt) is excellent. The road from Tuweep to St. George seems to get a lot less traffic than the road from Tuweep to Fredonia. Both have long stretches that are subject to flash flooding and impassable when wet. There are some rutted sections. There's a long stretch of narrow shelf road with many blind curves descending from Mt Trumbull toward St. George. The Toroweap road is a little rough and it gets rougher as you approach the rim, but nothing serious. There's one pretty good silt bed just below the Tuweep ranger station.

The Toroweap campground has to be one of the best campgrounds in the world. There are ten sites. We were there on the first Saturday night in May, and two went unused.

Great photos, Desert Dog. I didn't know you could post such large images on this site.

The images are hosted on photobucket.
I forgot to mention the best part. Just two days before we left on this trip, we had a minor warranty repair done, and the service manager threw in a detailing job for free. The thing was absolutely gleaming, inside and out. So of course the first thing we did was to go drive nearly 200 mi on the siltiest roads imaginable. :pepper:

Nice... Next time ask for a rain-check and bring it in after the trip!

It was already a rain-check, from back in March. If we waited until we knew we'd be staying on the pavement for more than a week or two, we'd never have gotten it done.
That's OK, dirty jeep = happy owner!
