The time we've all been waiting for has finally come! The Patriots are here!

http://www.jeeppatriot.com/images/press_kit/patriot_road.jpg

Now that the Jeep Patriot is finally in production and they are starting to trickle into dealerships, JeepPatriot.com (http://www.jeeppatriot.com/) will be getting ready to assist all owners and enthusiasts of Jeep's newest vehicle meet other owners and learn all about their Jeep! (We've already got a few owners starting to tell us about their "Pats").

So, here's your job: Let us know what we can do to make JeepPatriot.com a better place for you to learn about and discuss the Jeep Patriot. Looking for features or new categories to better find info? Let us know!

Post your suggestions or comments in the (appropriately named) Suggestions/Tech Support forum (http://www.jeeppatriot.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=9) and let us know how we can make JeepPatriot.com (http://www.jeeppatriot.com/) THE place to discuss the Jeep Patriot and meet other owners!

Thanks!

Well, there is one big thing that the Patriot,Compass and very many cars miss these days and it's the very simple protection device that guards the car doors against dents from other car's doors'When I look at the Liberty or Cherokee they bth have a massive plastic moulding that protects the door surface but Patriot is very vulnarable to the outside "attack" from an irresponsible driver that parks next to a Patriot and decides to be negligent while opening his doors. We know what can happen and how painful to the eyesight these ugly dents and scratches can be.

A central place up front in the portal to look up all the PDF documentation about the Patty as I posted here.

Well, I just made a great discovery today. The Limited line of Patriot comes with the door moulding and it is just glued on the the side in the groove so for those of you who wish to protect yopur door just order the moulding from the parts department at your Chrysler dealer and you can install pretty easily even it yourself.

A section for repairs, gripes, etc. that people have about their Pat.

It isn't exactly what people come here to read - but I like many others do have concerns about the PAT since it is the 1st run of the product.

Possible a section dedicated to recalls, common repairs, warranty repairs etc., so we can keep our own tab on how much people are having to get things repaired.

For instance, one person has already stated that their speakers are crackling - maybe others are having similar issues but don't search the entire site.

just an idea.

Should be able to post a new thread. I just tried and it tells me I dont have access to that "page" (probably means I dont have rights to create a new thread here..)

I was going to ask, anyone know when the 2008 Patriots are due out?

I have to say that I really am enjoying your web site. Haven't purchased my Patriot yet, waiting to free up some funds so I can just pay for the dang thing. Hopefully I'll be putting in my order in during July. I guess that'll be for the 08 model. I really enjoy the forum, lots of GREAT info there and a friendly group. My kind of place, and I'll be sure to add pics once I get it.

I'm assuming you mean Supporting Vendors? Yes, we will be bringing vendors on soon...I wanted to wait until we had a sizable membership (and the Patriots were out for a couple months) before bringing vendors on board. But, we are about to hit 2K members (and growing fast) so I think we most likely will start very shortly.

Perhaps the "knowledge base" could include some threads already on the forum. For instance, those wanting to install a hitch could easily review silvermike's story, or installing bikeracks after reading what azcycle went through. There is a lot of useful knowledge on here already, perhaps we could make it more accessible?

Perhaps something like what this Subaru guy did with www.cars101.com (http://www.cars101.com). When I was looking for my Legacy GT, I found this page invaluable. I know we're in the first year, but starting now will save time and frustration later. Maybe we could have a listing of the options for each year with ratings by the membership in terms of quality, usefulness, etc. I'd be willing to help enter data if you're interested.

Also, what about going to more of a web-page feel versus JUST the forums?! Perhaps this will come in time with sponsorships (and the money they'll bring in). Don't want to overload and burn you out DMAG, you've done a great job thus far!

While we wait for that feature to be added you can download a free program here http://joshmadison.com/software/download/dl.php?dl=convertExe4.10 which features dozens of conversion options.

I've owned a Patriot for about 1 month now. Decent vehicle, but here's a list of things that I think would make it better:

- Fix those intrusive headrests! They lean/angle forward, causing discomfort on your neck (make this a high priority)
- Add a center cabin light (high priority)
- Use softer material/plastics/whatever on the side arm rests. They're too hard
- The front cup holders should be farther forward. Seems one has to twist their arm around to get to them
- Get rid of that pain-in-the-neck disclaimer that you must agree to with an "enter" command every time you use the GPS navigation (!)
- More sound insulation on the firewall. The engine noise is a bit loud (but it's probably more the engine's fault)
- Use softer leather on the steering wheel
- Make the leather seats a bit softer. They seem too stiff as is (but they may softer as it gets a bit more broken in)
- The window up/down buttons have too much resistance. So does the radio buttons. Make them easier to press
- The slidable sun visors are a good idea, but they should slide out a little farther because they don't cover the full area on the side window as is
- Seems the CD/MP3 player doesn't like certain low sampling rate MP3s. Fix this
- Add a better equalizer to the advanced stereo
- Add more presets for the sat radio. With all those stations, 12 presets isn't enough. Try 18 or 24
- Add an aux in jack for the upgraded stereo
- The center armrest storage is too deep to grab something quickly. It needs a multi-level design
- Make the door map holders bigger. They're ridiculously small as is (too small for most maps, actually)
- The iPod holder is not usable when the car is driving because the person's arm will be using that space. Esp true if you have a manual transmission!

Hope this helps the designers for the next go-around
GB

Oh yeah,

- Make the gas tank bigger. I can barely squeeze out 280, 290 miles on a tank.
- Add a lockable gas cap. If you get an aftermarket lockable one then it's not tethered.

Jim...I have to say, Matt (TehKing) said the same exact thing about a week ago and even created the profile field for your Ride in your UserCP. (Under "Edit Profile"). I was supposed to add it into the posts template, but completely forgot! (Oops!) Its now there on the left side of your posts (if you've filled out that field).

Its basic right now (no info about your ride)...just the type of ride you have, but I don't see why we can't add in the extra functionality.

Correct me if I'm wrong fellas, but don't we already have such a method?
Interior includes any mods done to the inside. Ditto with Exterior. Further refinement of interior has a seperate section for Audio, etc. Wheel mods have a section for wheels and tires.
I'm lost as to exactly where mods would go if not in their respective area of the Jeep? (no, really..I AM lost here.)
I may be looking into the mud flaps and rain guard mods here soon and I know to go to the Exterior forum and look for those mods specifically when I am ready. Is there a need for further refinement on this? (yes, I admit to being clueless at times! And no comment from Wade either...)

So, here's your job: Let us know what we can do to make JeepPatriot.com a better place for you to learn about and discuss the Jeep Patriot. Looking for features or new categories to better find info? Let us know!

Wade
07-03-2008, 08:09 PM
Winning prizes and stuff like that will take a while, but it is a great idea. Our JeepPatriot.com, in the world of automobile based forums, is an infant. There are so many other forums about this or that, that get started up only to fade away after a year or two. Fortunately for us, although our forum is very new, only two and a half years old, because of the popularity of the Patriot and Compass vehicles and the loyalty of their owners, this forum is blessed to have almost 6,700 members in that short time. Remember this too, during the first six months of this forum's existence, the Patriot wasn't even available to the public!

What all this means is that just like the lack of bolt on after market accessories for those who want to mod their Patriot, sponsors aren't flocking to us to advertise their products just yet... Trust me, as gas prices continue to rise, the higher MPG Patriot and Compass will continue to become more and more attractive to buyers. The advertisers will come, eventually, and with them, hopefully, so will offers from them to sponsor contests and reward winners with samples of their products from time to time. I too have wanted to see a more active list of sponsors, but I too know they are sitting back waiting to see if this forum will be just as successful as the other Tek-Smart Family of Websites (http://www.tek-smart.com/).

That said, Gaze and I are only moderators here and have no stake in the financial side of of how the forum is run. DMAG, on the other hand, is the forum's Administrator and does have a stake in the way money is spent for the forum's continued success. The way he has ran the forum since it began in early 2006 has lead us to this successful state we currently enjoy. His formula seems to be working so there's no need to change that.

When the time comes to have sponsors, advertisers, and the like, it will be DMAG's decision to set the wheels in motion, not ours...

Retreating back to my golf cart....

Yea the one thing I notice on other forums is the huge presence of supporting vendors. I think the ability to have those on forums really generates enthusiasm with the members because they are being directly heard by the companies who are creating the aftermarket for their respective ride. This allows us to get group buys, beta test different products, and have our voice heard on what we want in the aftermarket world. I think the most important thing that the moderators could do for this forum is to court the huge market of supporting vendors.

Wade
07-03-2008, 10:45 PM
I think the most important thing that the moderators could do for this forum is to court the huge market of supporting vendors.

I would love to do that, but again, that is not the function of a moderator... We moderate the forum to keep the message threads and members working toward a common goal of not allowing a free for all to break out...

If there are suggestions that you and others have that you feel would benefit the operation and continued growth of the forum, then by all means, send either Gaze or myself a PM or email. We will make sure DMAG is aware of the suggestions and comments we get from the members.

As far as the running of the forum as a business, courting support from vendors in the form of sponsorships and advertising would be the Administrator's function, along with the software and server upgrades. If he directs us to actively begin seeking possible advertisers, then we will do so then. This is his show, and I respect the man who created it and owns it...

What this site needs is a connection to someone at Chrysler LLC so that we can start getting rumors about what is in the pipeline. You can only look at so many pictures of stock Patriots, and read about leaky dome lights for so long.

Other sites have talent contests: either drawings or photoshopped pictures. I don't know if the talent is here, but I see some pretty impressive stuff out there.

I'm just taking a wild stab that this, but I wouldn't think Chrysler needs another method of hearing complaints (and we all know that that's what this would get the majority of..). They have enough avenues for contacting them when a complaint needs filed and when it comes to improvements, I bet they lean heavily on the people they pay to come up with just those very things.

Don't get me wrong..it would be cool to have something like that here, but I just don't see it happening anytime soon.

The Jeep Patriot would be better if a company who actually repaired problems under warranty manufactured it. Daimler hurt Chrysler, Cerberus destroyed it.

All the photos I post are now converted to thumbnail size. Not good.

I've noticed a lot of people having that problem. Clicking on the photos brings up a 404-looking page that just seems to have failed to run a php.

However, my image links to Photobucket seem to be working fine still.

Yeah, all the pictures I've posted in older messages are tiny and cannot be made bigger. Please fix this.

I'm assuming this is only for pictures that are hosted through our gallery or is it external pictures as well?

My signature thread seems to be loading properly:
http://www.jeeppatriot.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6904

Is it possible that there is a problem with photobucket or one of the outside providers?

No it is on the jeeppatriot site. I have never used and external host for photos. I just upload them from my computer directly to this site. Sometimes I need to resize tham to meet the size requirement, but usually I could get 3x5 " photos to show in the body of the post on a 14" screen. Now all the photos I've posted are about an inch and a half square.

A photo like this one used to be 3 to 4 times as large.

Yeah... I was just fiddling around with some of the attachment settings. As far as I can see, everything should be working fine. I'll ask DMAG to look into it.
