I haven't seen one, but they are definitely already being made. There is one in the Team Welsh lot in Fair Hills, NJ (I'm not from the area, it was mentioned in another area and I looked up their four Patriots through the Jeep website).

The Nav is the same REC Radio they have been using for a few years now, at least since 05. I work at a Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge dealership and so far have only seen one in a Compass, none in the Caliber. The Compass was special ordered that way for a customer, not a common option but it can be added later or at delivery and will look and function the same as factory unlike some other Mopar add ons.

That is an intersting fact (lower take rates on the better radio.) This particular option might not be for me, but I always thought that more and more people were turning to colorful displays in the centerstack of the car.

I am from the Far Hills area and will actually be getting one soon (hopefully tomorrow!!). I was just there today looking at them and just need to decide what color I want. The nav system is the same setup as in the Grand Cherokee. It looks a lot nicer then the stock radio (at least in my opinion).

Hopefully I'll have it tomorrow so I can post pics for you guys!

Does anyone know why is there such a thick black border around the rear window and the two side windows over the cargo area?

Expensive option, on a low priced car, most people do pass and most dealers wont stock them that way. IIRC the one Compass we sold that way was pushing $25k and it was 2WD. We just got another one in, I will have to check the sticker on that one. The Nav radio really isnt ordered that much on the more expensive cars either, I removed one from a Magnum the other day and replaced it with a regular radio because the customer didnt want to pay for it. The Grand Cherokee and the Commander probably are the most frequently ordered with the Nav unit, for 07 they also get the backup camera with that radio.

The Window Frit line is used to conseal the glue and "tollerances" that are allowed for the window pocket to glass interface.

Think of the black banding as a "Trim ring"

Edit: and thanks for the pictures!

I found this review on it at the leeparts website/

Awesome Unit - Many features that are not mentioned on most sites
This unit is certainly under-promoted! It has voice prompts for turn-by-turn navigation, 6 CD w/ mp3 playback (and CDR-R/W). It also has a built-in Yellow Pages directory, so if all you know is the business phone number of where you are going, it will take you there... and, if you also have the U-Connect (Bluetooth) option, it will dial the number of your destination on 'your' cell phone too! Way Cool! The FM radio also displays the song info, if available on the station you are tuned to. There is no "AUX" jack though... no place to connect the iPod directly like the other factory radios. (Too bad) There are aftermarket devices that you can 'adapt' the inputs, but that's a bit costly. Overall- I give it high marks!

When a dealership does this and has a nav system in stock, do they sell it to the consumer for the 1500 that they took it out for or the 2200 that they retail for?

That's a real bummer about the AUX jack...I was really hoping that this $1400 system would have that luxury especially since I'm paying extra for the premium sound ($700) and I haven't purchased a CD in years (don't plan on using the 6-disc changer). Also makes the iPod holder worthless in the console.

I talked to my dealer about the AUX input and they swear that it has one. But considering how little they know about this vehicle, I'm not trusting them. I know more (through help from this forum) than any dealer.

Hello,

I saw the navigation radio in a limited in person here in New Jersey and it looks really good. One question I can't seem to get a good solid answer on is, does this radio have a video input at the rear of the unit? The standard answer seems to be no because the patriot does not have a backup camera option. My thinking is that if this same radio is used on other vehicles that do offer a backup camera than the radio will have the input for it even though the camera itself is not offered. This is a deal breaker for me to spend the $1300 bucks or not for this unit.

Thank you,
Joe

Couldn't tell you for sure, but the dealer told me this is the identical unit to what they use in all Jeeps and many other Daimler-Chrysler vehicles so if they have the video input I would be my left pinky they this one does too (I'm not 100% on that so I bet my little finger because it isn't that useful anyways) But if that is a deal breaker I wouldn't get it upfront you can always grab one off ebay later for the same 1300$ (even though the dealer will tell you its 2200 aftermarket) and a new center console panel runs another 47$ that way you can check with the seller of the specific unit to be sure.

What info do people have on this gps system. Anyone?!

Went to Jeep lot today. They had a patriot, no nav.

But that same unit (3 knobs-no touch screen) is in the Commander, with the Uconnect in the rear view mirror.

I WOULD PREFER THE MyGig that is in the Wrangler Unlimited and the Nitro and Sebring and other new products.

It has the external jack on the front face, Uconnect and is TOUCH screen and the screen flips open for the CD.

That 3-knob one was awful to use in the Commmander, but would live with it.

Wonder if that change will happen soon. or can I buy one and have it fit in same spot?

NEVER MIND, I GUESS THIS ANSWERS MY QUESTION!!!!!!!!!!
JUST FOUND THIS!
WON'T EVEN BE ABLE TO GET IT IF I WAIT TO SPEC OUT an '08 Model

MyGIG will be available in the following vehicles starting with the 2009 model year: (partial list)

2009 Dodge Ram
2009 Dodge Viper
2009 Chrysler PT Cruiser

MyGIG is not compatible with the following vehicles:

All 2006 and prior models

All 2007 models except Wrangler, Nitro, Sebring and Avenger

The following 2008 models:
Chrysler Pacifica
Chrysler PT Cruiser
Dodge Caliber
Dodge Ram
Dodge Viper
Jeep Compass
Jeep Patriot

- Yeah, see the Patriot listed at the end!

This might even be a deal killer, would hate to get the Nitro instead.

Chrysler, READ THIS!!!!!!!

If you go to this link, there is an interactive demo that is pretty extensive and it is the same system that you get in the Patriot. The "bread-crumb" trail mode is interesting.

Click down where it says, "Learn More"

I see that with the Patriot nav system one can not play tapes, mp2, cd's, dvds, etc. The DVD slot is only for the map data base DVDs.

However, it DOES come with an AM/FM radio, so I guess one could use something like this:

http://www.roadmasterusa.com/fmmod_vr3.php

Also, you can get an optional 115 volt outlet with the Patriot to make it easier to use a tape player, etc......

Does the Patriot nav require you to be in park before inputting an address, or can you do it as you are driving?

Am not positive about this, but if you watch the demo on the Jeep Commander site mentioned above, I think that was one of the questions in the FAQs. It seemed to suggest that you had to be stopped, But it did not mention if it could be set to override.

I just purchased a Limited 4x4 with navigation last week. You do have to be stopped (but not in park) to program an address, but there is a limited programming option that can be used while in motion. If you have addresses already in the system you can select those. I will post pictures of my navigation system once my camera batteries are charged!

Yeah... that's probably the only downfall of getting the NAV... no auxillary jack. However, there are plenty of other ways to connect an iPod or MP3 in your car. I'm more than happy with my navigation and stereo system.

yes, you have to be stopped, but not in park. so you could search while sitting at a stoplight etc.

i doesn't. the other one does thought that is mounted on the dash board. http://www.autotrucktoys.com/jeep_patriot/Mopar-OEM-Jeep-Patriot-GPS-Navigation-System-P17641C5362.aspx but it's $1,019! One is better off to spend $500 on a good portable instead of purchasing through Jeep.

So while driving can you search for restaurants, gas stations, landmarks, etc? My paretns have a garmin system that lets you do this and it is very handy.

Everyone else with the Nav unit - take a look at this screen.

http://bp3.blogger.com/_hNkwq5GIxi4/ReMIHSHB9VI/AAAAAAAAAJs/VuW1KW2g3zc/s1600-h/2008-jeep-patriot-dashboard.jpg

It is the unit we have with the 3 knobs. Looks like it is from a compass, because of the shifter.

Anyway, There are no settings on this unit to make it display 3D view, that is false advertising. It looks as if they photoshopped the screen from a MyGig unit onto that picture, because We don't have those icons on the left of the screen either and the top one looks like the UConnect phone that is built into the MyGig, but not our units, our's is in the mirror.

I really am disappointed with the limited amount of user settings with this unit also. I think I want my money back. :( :)

that cannot be a 2007 Patriot because if you notice the shifter you got sport shift and no low on the pannel unless this is a 2008/2009 shot of the nav that will be in next years model or the year after......

Well heck, I have the Nav unit TOO, that is what I am trying to point out. Even though that is a Compass, that is our nav unit too.

And if you zoom up on that photo, there is NO WAY to make mine look like that! If you are able to make yours look like that, let me know how.

Having a TomTom and a Garmin, I assumed that the 3D view in that photo, meant that the unit would display that way. Guess not.
