Hello fellow Patriot owners,

I live in Canada, and here we are limited to a maximum 907 kg towing capacity. I have noticed though that in most other countries, including the UK, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Australia, etc... all have maximum towing capacities of 1500 kg (for a braked trailer). But we don't seem to have that option here in North America.
I'm just wondering if those Pat owners in Australia would be willing to share their towing experiences, maybe answer some of the following questions:
How you tried towing anything over 907 kg?
Any problems with heavier weight?
What kind of trailers are you towing?
Are you aware of any major differences in non North American Pats that would enable them to tow more weight?
Do you have specialized hitches, for example welded to the frame instead of just bolted on?

I'm trying to get Chrysler in North America to provide some kind of an explanation on why we are restricted to only 907 kg, while most other countries have the option to tow more with a braked trailer. I have consulted my province's transportation department as well as my auto insurance company, and they both say that it's the manufacturer that sets the towing capacity as there are no specific government regulation or insurance specific policy that dictates such things. But after several weeks, Chrysler has still not provided any kind of explanation.
Any information you can share will be greatly appreciated.

FYI, I own basic Sports model, 4x2 2.4 liter 5 speed standard.

Hey, not sure if you've found an answer or not.
I think the difference is the "Export" model is a 4x4 same as your FDI I believe. I'm pretty sure they come with the tow pack as standard also. This may be the reason for the increased towing capacity.
I have towed over a tonne no worries. The Pat is not the gutsiest thing on the road but it did the job.

1500 is still not good enough for me. I'm hoping to be towing 1700-1800kgs in a year or 2.

Hey, will my Diesel Pat be right to tow a Jayco Eagle (on-road model) ... once fitted with electric brake capability.

Mud, if you read this soon, can you recommend anyone local to do that?

My diesel pat is more than capable of pulling the skin off a rice pudding..

Have you got a petrol version ?

Sure, they're not the most powerful thing out there - but if i wanted to pull a horse trailer with a couple of tonnes.. you would pick a nissan patrol or a landcruiser.. and pay another $25,000 for the pleasure..

power to weight, the jeep kicks ass !
