This was my first addition to my 2008 patriot and since i saw there was no post about it yet i took pics of my install.

First of you will need Mopar parts # 82210538. These are the factory cargo nets for the Patriot and Compass

Tools

1/4 inch drill bit
1/2 inch drill bit
Drill capable of handling 1/2 drill bit (not all of them do)
Tape measure with metric and standard
masking tape
some form of marking tool (i used a razor blade since you drill it out anyways)
last but not least your drink of choice ;)

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/schoat333/jeep/net/tools.jpg

1. start by using the tape measure and masking tape to mark BOTH drill bit's 1/4 inch from the end.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/schoat333/jeep/net/tools2.jpg

2. next go to the rear panneling were the net connects and measure 60mm down from were the top and bottom plastics meet, and 35mm in from the edge were the liftgate seal meets the pannel and mark you target.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/schoat333/jeep/net/mark.jpg

3. After you've marked were your going to drill get your 1/4 inch drill bit first. This is to drill a pilot hole so you dont tear the plastic with the 1/2 inch bit. Make sure you do not drill in past the tape you placed on the drill bit or you will hit the metal underneath.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/schoat333/jeep/net/pilothole.jpg

4. Next drill that same hole again with the 1/2 inch bit.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/schoat333/jeep/net/fullhole.jpg

4. Now you have to install the round attachment pieces. start by loosening the rubber grommet slightly so you can push it thru the hole.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/schoat333/jeep/net/loophook.jpg

5. next you push it all the way thru the hole and then pull back so its just up against the inside of the plastic (i found it to be easier to pry the plastic away from the inside of the car a little bit with your fingers). then hand tighten the round piece until the rubber grommet is expanded and holds it in place.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/schoat333/jeep/net/lookhook2.jpg

repeat these steps again for the other side (On the passenger side it will be just above were the plastic sticks out for the cubby, or woofer for those with BA).

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/schoat333/jeep/net/loohookpass.jpg

next get the pouch net and connect the hooks to the metal loops on the very back by the gate.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/schoat333/jeep/net/nethook2.jpg

then hook the loop over the round attachment points you installed.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/schoat333/jeep/net/nethook1.jpg

walla your finished with the hard one. the other net simply attaches to all 4 metal loops in the rear.

heres your finished look.

I believe they go for 25-30 dollars online or at the dealer. Mine was a B-day gift from my girlfriends parents so im not sure were it came from.

Very nice...i need to get one of these lol

How well does it hold with the 1/2 inch hole drilled, when i installed the one in my parents caravan i only drilled the holes big enough for the screws...

it holds great. i gave it a nice, 180lbs of human, tug and the whole panel moved out but the knob stayed perfect. the rubber piece expands as you tighten it so it holds very well. I was thinking about putting them in the way you mentioned but IMO it would have been more of a hassel to pull the panel off than it was really worth.

Mine installed easily (Mopar instruction and yours agree in all respects, but yours are better).

One beef: The mouning posts have a threaded rod in them that is about 1/4" too long: It butts into the metal hehind the plastic trim, and leaves the knob a bit proud of the plastic trim, so that on close observation, a bit of the mushroomed rubber can be seen. Generic pieces, I guess.

Plenty rigid, just a bit too long. They didn't intend us to drill the 1/4" bit through the metal too did they?? :wow:

Otherwise easy install, happy with the result.

That Rear Cargo Net was nicely done...
Thanks for sharing this right up...
A pretty considerable option for my next modification...

Alternative (/international?) version:

one generic cargo net (mine is meant for the bed of a pick-up truck, i just folded it in two)
seven suitable carabiners

Last summer, I had to figure out a way to securely hold gear in place when the cargo space was filled all the way to the roof and I did not have the time to order a cargo net from the US. This is what I ended up with. Still in use. :)

Nice job! I was gonna have my dealership install the net separating cargo area from seating area (to keep my dog's mess in the back) but I didn't wanna pay labor (I think it was 0.3 hours).

Interestingly, they quoted for labor also on the dog bed (I'll just buy one at a pet store). Now I see they probably install anchors for the bed. I was thinking they were charging labor for tossing the bed in.

nice writeup. What's the net on the outside for though, unless ur running around with the hatch open, wouldn't the hatch stop things from sliding that far up? i get the bottom one buckling everything down. and i could see the vertical net about halfway back to give a smaller, separated area right up against the seat.

No disrespect intended, i'm just curious what a net right against the hatch would be used for.

Again, great writeup and pics.. Thanks,

That net holds the stuff against the back gate. Usually you load, like a couple grocery bags, in from the gate. The net keeps them from moving around inside the cargo area.

Hey guys, reviving an old post.

Just got a new pat 2011 and ordered the molar cargo net kit from justforjeeps.com.

Question on the "tightening" of the hooks.... It mentions to pull out the plastic to tighten the holders/hooks from the inside?

What's a safe way to do this without damaging anything?
