: Human size VS the Patriot
jepstr67 03-26-2008, 06:06 PM I was going to make this very specific, but in the interests of limiting the number of related threads, I included all discussion about how the Patriot fit the person.
Anyway, I'm 5'6" tall. A little shorter than average. I normally have my seat pretty far back and drive with my toe, but my Patriot's clutch does not allow that. If I have the seat far enough foreword that I can fully disengage the clutch, then the center arm rest is useless. I like to set my arm on the center rest, but it will not pull far enough foreword. Any other shorter drivers thought about this? I'm considering making some kind of extension for the arm rest.
newjeepgirl 03-26-2008, 07:34 PM Even us "tall" people can't use the arm rest - it just doesn't extend far enough. The whole center console is a great candidate for redesign!
metalhead 03-26-2008, 08:11 PM I totally agree a redesign is needed. When you do slide it forward it can easily slide back if you bump it. It needs to lock in the place you move it too.
I'm 6'4 amd have no problems with the armrest slide to either direction. It always works for me. No problem with the clutch either. Do you have the adjustable height seat? Mine's all the way back, and cranked up a bit. Maybe down and seat forward some would work for you.
My problem with the armest is the stupid ipod holder. Umm, you cannot change gears with it flipped open. So, I just put a pack of gum in it and leave it closed.
demolaysgirl 03-26-2008, 08:34 PM I roll in at 5' 5.5" and both arm rests are fine for me.
Hubby is 6' 2" and doesn't seem to have problems, either.
However, I have noticed that if I sit in the passenger seat after he has, I can't reach anyh armrest until I pull the seat forward.
Schoat333 03-26-2008, 11:00 PM im 6' myself an i dont have any issues with the arm rest. i think a lot of it has to do with how the back of your seat is. if you sit stright up you probably sit too far foreward. i sit with my seat on the second to last notch back and reclined slightly.
Wheezy 03-26-2008, 11:07 PM I'm 6' tall and the armrests are fine for me, except for the fact that center armrest is based on a totally useless gimmick that annoys the hell out of me when it slides backwards by itself. It would be half decent if you could at least lock it when it's extended.
eighteenwheeler 03-29-2008, 07:39 PM I'm short, just 6'9" - And the armrest is fine.
If only I could stop bumping my knee on the stupid console right where it comes out at that semisharp angle...
My wife is 5'3", and she has some problems with it, but mainly how "short" it is and "uncomfortable" it is, but thats because she sits near all the way forward, and pumps up the seat all the way.
I'm 6'4'' and feel very comfortable. I was looking for the car where me and my family can feel free. And Pat does- even on rear seats where even I can sit freely.
But drivers seat- it's relly perfect- very roomy car.
Ok- armrests are little bit uncomfortable, especially on long trip.
luffing 04-01-2008, 08:31 AM 6', 200lbs. This is one of the most comfortable vehicles I've ever owned. The center armrest is a bit goofy, though. I know they were trying for some techie current stuff, but it just didn't work. I'm satisfied with the ergonomics overall. I put my hand out, the right button or stick is there.
I'm 6'4" and I fit pretty good in the jeep. I do put the seat all the way down in the vertical position and almost all the way back in the front/back position. The center arm rest is not great, but it works for me ok. My wife is short about 5'5" and she jacks the seat all the way up and moves it forward quite a bit. The only gripe she has is her knee is very close to the bottom plastic hunk under the steering wheel and occasionally she hits it. I find this to be much much more comfortable then my last truck.
The plastic sticking out under the steering wheel is why we probably cannot get a Patriot ( or a Liberty, same problem ). Driving manual, you have to be able to get the clutch all the way to the floor, which for short people means getting the seat up close. We need to find a manual transmission Patriot to try it out for real, but on the automatics which is all they stock nearby it seems like this will make it impossible.
The Subarus have a different issue. The pedals are so close together that anyone with boots will risk hitting two pedals at once. When I first got in it my right foot was on the clutch and I was trying to figure out why there is a stick shift with no clutch under my left foot.
Robot_Boy 04-06-2008, 11:11 AM My wife is 5'2" and has never complained about driving the Patriot.
Maxtriot 07-06-2008, 08:37 PM I'm 6'1'' and the arm rest is just ok for me when it is slided all the way to the front, the only thing is that it is always sliding back and in the front position it is hard to reach the latch lift it up... good for redesign...
