Hi there,

I am in the market for a new car in the next couple of month. We just moved
from Florida to Colorado and since we will be spending some time in the mountains skiing and stuff, we though about an AWD car. I was looking at the Subaru Outback, but man this thing is a space ship. Way to big! So I came across the the Jeep Compass. Right size and good MPG's and not too bad looking. I have to say, I haven't really seen many here around Boulder area, where we live. I haven't done a test ride yet but my question is, does the 2.4l engine have enough power to get you up the mountains? I mean for European standards, this is a decent sized engine. Even though the compass weighs over 2 tons. Does anyone ride the compass in the mountains? What are your experience with it? I will definitely try to go up a hill when I do my test drive.

Thanks for the help,

Peter

mmm I donīt know how the compass / patriot can handle the power at the mountains with the 2.4 lts, but is enough power to move the SUV.

You will love the Compass, good looking, good engine...

Welcome!

Hopefully some Compass owners will chime in here for you. I think the Patriot is as heavy, if not more, and I drive the mountains in PA all the time and the Patriot does surprisingly well with a 4cyl. In those rare passing zones on the 2 lane highways I drive, going up hill, I can jump out and pass well.

I have a friend who drives a Compass, and he loves it. Wonderful in the snow, good mileage, and good power for the engine size.

Neither Compass or Patriot weigh "more than 2 tons".
A ton is 2000 lbs, and I believe the curb weight for the Patriot is about 3200lbs or so.

Sorry, you are right. I don't know where I read something with 2000 kg. However, that source was definitely wrong. The Compass weighs 3223 lbs, equals 1 461.9 kg. And I was wondering why they are sooooo heavy! I am glad they are not.
