Posting Photos 101 (Revised)
What is one of the first things you did when you brought that shiny new Jeep home? You took a picture of it right? Maybe not everybody, but most do. So you want to show off that new ride here in the JeepPatriot.com forum but don't really know quite how. This is understandable because there is a vast amount of great info to read here. Basically, there are two ways to display your photos. One is to use the Gallery feature of the forum, and the other is to post the photo in the messages you create. I'll describe the Gallery method first followed by the Message method.
Gallery Method:
First, there is a great photo section on this forum available to everyone called the Gallery. To get to it just click the link in the dark grey line (circled in red),
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l186/wadefallin/Gallery-1.jpg
or follow this link:http://www.jeeppatriot.com/gallery/ to get to it. Photos placed in the Gallery can be of .jpg, .jpeg, or .png file types and cannot be larger than 250K in size.
Once in the Gallery, in order to upload photos of your new ride you must click on the Upload Photos menu item (circled in red):
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l186/wadefallin/Gallery-2.jpg
or use this link to get there from here: http://www.jeeppatriot.com/gallery/uploadphoto.php
Once you are in the Upload Photo screen below,
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l186/wadefallin/Gallery-3.jpg
select a category from the JeepPatriot Members Galleries dropdown (circled in red):
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l186/wadefallin/Gallery-4.jpg
Once a category has been selected, then click the Browse button, (circled in red) above, to locate the photo you want to upload. You will need to locate the photo on your computer to select it for uploading.
You should take a moment to enter a title for the photo, any keywords to help others find your photo, and a brief description about the photo. You can also select to get notified via email when someone enters a comment about your photo. When you are ready, click the Upload/Submit button, (circled in red).

Message Method:
Now all this is great, but you still want to show off that photo in a message, similar to how I placed these screen shots in this message. Here's some tips on how to do this. First, I store most of my photos offsite on the website called PhotoBucket.com. If you choose to store the photos here in the Gallery, please consider resizing the photo to save space. One method to do this is to resize your photo with a photo editor or graphics utility. One of the most useful add on utilities I have downloaded from Microsoft, is a application called Image Resizer. It is a part of the Windows XP PowerToys utilities that are free from Microsoft.
If your OS is Windows XP, visit the following link to download and install the Microsoft PowerToy call Image Resizer. Very slick image utility that allows your to resize any image. Just right click the file and select Resize Picture. It leaves the original file unchanged. Here's that link:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx.
There is not a Vista version of the XP PowerToys, however, you can download another image resizer called QuickResizer at: http://www.ivertech.com/quickResizer/default.aspx.
Another way to reduce the size of a photo is to crop the photo to show only what really needs to help explain what you are posting about.
So you know how and where to submit a photo. From where you stored your photo, display it and then right click the image and select "Copy Image Location". This places the image's URL onto your clipboard. In the message where you want to display the image, in the Advanced message editor, click the "Insert Image" icon (circled in red):
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l186/wadefallin/Gallery-6.jpg
which pops up this box:
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l186/wadefallin/Gallery-7.jpg
Paste the contents of the clipboard into the URL line and click the OK button. I just press the CTRL-V keys to do this.
That's pretty much it... I know this is very long and can be confusing to some. If you have any questions, please send me a PM and I'll do my best to answer your question.
