If I have it in gear when off, no parking brake, do the rears still freewheel, or are they locked like a full time 4x4?

There are so many reasons I want to put the car up on jack stands so I can push different buttons and try different things to learn the answers to questions like this.

I jacked up one rear wheel on my Compass FD1 5-speed and it spun freely in gear with parking brake off and engien off. I haven't had both rears up yet. I suspect the rear wheels will spin in opposite directions because of the open differatial. I also think the eletronic coupler is not locked by default with engine off.

I would not park the Patriot in gear as a habit. If you are just testing stuff I see no problems.

I will have mine up on stands shortly, if no one else answers by then I will let you know.

I tried doing this as well and even with the patriot running with 4x4 locked and the trans in park, the one rear tire i had off the ground spun freely. The drive shaft going to the rear differential was locked tho??? weird.

I also jacked it up with all 4 wheels off the ground, turned traction control off, locked 4x4 and put it in drive. all 4 tires spun instantly and the BLD went to work on the tires that started to spin faster. You can actually hear the brake dragging ever so slightly.

Im still curious how that rear differential works now tho. anyone have any ideas?
