: NorCal Pats?
the_jeep_now 08-18-2010, 05:09 PM Hi all,
Just wondering how many folks we have in NorCal/Bay Area/Sacramento Valley/Lake Tahoe who would like to get together for some one day trip to the coast or mountains or you name it, just to meet and have some great time with our Jeeps? Nothing planned yet just wanted to see how many people would like to do it. If you will be in this area and would like to join please feel free to speak up and let us know if you're planning to attend so maybe we schedule something during that time. Any ideas/suggestions/proposals are welcomed!
silver and black 08-19-2010, 03:05 AM in september we should go up near pinecrest lake. there are supposed to be some cool trails up there.
ponyboy 09-23-2010, 12:28 AM im up in vacaville and am definately interested in meeting up!
jloffermann 12-02-2010, 09:20 PM Travis afb, only 30 min south of sac very interested already found some stat run off highway vehicle parks (OHV) theres a small fee to use but its only 20 min from sac,
http://ohv.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=1221 it says there even renovating the 4x4 area to include: Four new staging areas are being added to provide
additional parking, restrooms,
picnic areas, trees and shade ramadas.
Vehicle obstacle areas will be improved. anyone interested let me know. i'll check daily send me message pref.
the_jeep_now 12-03-2010, 05:13 PM This place is only about 15 minutes away from my place and I've never heard of it. The park's website says it cost $50 for a pass which seems a little high, for me at least. Unless I misunderstood the info they published. I'm a little hesitant to go there as my Pat doesn't have any recovery points: no tow hooks and I haven't installed my hitch yet even though it's sitting in a box in my living room:) I don't feel like getting stuck and not been able to get out especially with kind of weather we're currently having. But the cost is the driving factor for me at this point. It sure does look like fun!
jloffermann 12-04-2010, 03:31 PM Totally understand, i found out the 50$ is for a whole calendar yr for all CA ohv parks, its just to keep the parks up to-date etc... man cali is little expensive. so don't know if that helps. If anyone knows any spots not to harsh for some semi stock patriots let me know, i wouldn't mind driving little ways to meet up at some trails. i only have weekends off for now though.
the_jeep_now 12-04-2010, 07:04 PM Do you know if there is a one time fee available or you have to buy an annual pass only? As I said, I live only a few minutes away from it so maybe one day I'll drive down there and check it out, maybe will take a few photos for a general idea of what it is. Do you have any recovery points on your Pat?
jloffermann 12-06-2010, 02:26 PM Cuurently do no not the fee situation i will call them today and see what i can find. second point no recovery points yet... looking at a hit and some tow hooks though. just doing some price hunting. i'll post what i find about the fee ASAP. and if you or anyone you know wants to try it out once the fee situation is figured keep me updated.
I_Have_A_Jeep_Patriot 12-07-2010, 12:41 PM Hey guys, I am down in central cali but I am definitely willing to drive the distance to do some trails with fellow riot owners. I haven't been able to find any trails around my area that might be fun but if you end up organizing anything then please let me know! :D

Looks like you got people interested with this park:pepper: Were able to find anything out about daily use fees? Looks like it should be nice (weather wise) this Sunday so if you didn't find anything out, I might go down there and check it out myself.
jloffermann 12-08-2010, 10:57 PM Hey,
Looks like you just pay 50$ an its good for a calendar yr. then there's a 5$ parking fee, but since jeeps wont be parking i don't see any fees listed on the website for this park. I'm free on weekends and borrowed a friends gps. i'll check the forums daily until sat if anyone interested maybe we can meet at a spot in the park or?
p.s. saw a red/green sticker combo valid for 2 yrs, only $52.00 so gotta call them tomorrow at lunch to get some clarification.

Do some good searches for OHV ca parks near your area you have to purchase a green sticker $50 a yr unless your able to find some trails locally. originally im from north idaho so actually have to look for trails is a new thing for me haha.

i was doing some weekend work, ugh... were you able to check it out to see if its worth 50$ a yr?
the_jeep_now 12-14-2010, 04:16 PM No, I haven't had a chance. It was a pretty busy weekend. Maybe this coming weekend or next since I'll have 3 day weekend during Christmas.

Phineas Phreek 04-03-2011, 04:37 PM Long time lurker, first time poster, living in SF East Bay. Got my 2010 FDII last August with the intent of taking 4x4 trails to do remote camping. Definately want to try some trails with other Pats or offroaders before going off on my own. Been looking at nat'l parks, like Mendocino, BLM like Cow Mountain, Hollister OHV, and several others where I can go trailing and camping (have camped and slept in the back of the riot a few times already, very comfy with my 2" foam mattress)
Definitely want to get a come-along, straps, etc, before jumping in too deep, but interested in meeting up. Will be watching for other's suggestions for date/places, and will be posting my own soon
lookin' forward to meetin' up!
jloffermann 04-03-2011, 07:58 PM found the perfect two-strap for ya i got one for me and my friends Tacoma,
4wheelparts.com and they have a dealer on el camino ave in sac. its a smittybuilt 2inx20ft 20,000lb tow strap only $19.99 as for a come-a-long harbor freight has 8k ones for like 40$ im looking at a farm company though to do some pricing before i cough up the $$
Phineas Phreek 04-05-2011, 09:31 PM Thanks jloffermann,
I think there is a 4wheelparts locally in Oakland. Definitely like smittybilt as a brand, and that price is right. Sorry, would have replied more quickly, but somehow didn't notice your come-along recommendation. I haven't found reviews, good or otherwise, or any youtube vids, for the harborfreight cable puller, but have seen nothing but really bad reviews for models with that appearance and at that price (see amazon: neiko heavy-duty 5-ton come-a-long power puller, for example). And I'm not a fan of the steel cable. Unless someone with experience with it argues that it is great, that price and the lack of reviews (even on harborfreights own site!) scares me into a lack of trust... (weird, harborfreight's page for *this* product has several reviews posted... but none for this particular product!)
did we successfully friend? I tried responding but not sure it worked...
...if it were only a little warmer at night, I would be heading to cow mountain this next week to camp and try the trail, I have the week off, spring break... am a teacher
Looking forward to hittin' a local trail with ya soon (plenty more stuff in the Sierras than you mentioned in another post, or was mentioned in another post you participated in), glad to see there are a couple of us in the region
jloffermann 04-05-2011, 10:16 PM cool man, there is a harborfreight about 30min south of the base in vallejo i believe it's spelled. actually im free this weekend as well haha, normally in Rocklin. If your interested in some trails a guy thats been here for quite sometime recommended Western mine road its little south of Middletown ca, about an hour away from here its a 25-30mile road dirt with a couple of small stream crossing and plenty of dirt to branch off of. google maps Western Mine Rd
Middletown, CA i was thinking of doing this sometime got another guy on base with patriot and another with a tundra.
and yes, we did successfully friend haha.
another edit: it's only about 12 miles but about 30 mins of nice dirt road and rivers etc. the guy is an avid outdoors men, and has been here for little over 20 yrs.
plus you don't need a monster truck.
Phineas Phreek 04-06-2011, 02:12 AM jloffermann,
as yet unable to figure out how to PM you, maybe I don't have enough posts, pls try pm'ing me
jloffermann 04-06-2011, 08:02 PM p.s. try clicking on my picture or my name sometimes it opens a pop-up window with more options sorry haha.
Phineas Phreek 04-12-2011, 07:13 PM gonna be camping in Mendocino Nat'l Forest, probably Friday to Tues or Wed, lots of trails in the area. Interested?
jloffermann 04-13-2011, 12:21 AM Hey sorry I didn't respond to your P.M. I would however this weekend I might have to stay local due to the exercise and inspections. Once things clear up for me to take leave I'm very interested! have you looked at the Indian valley Reservoir? it's little closer and a local with 25yrs off-roading told me tons of spots! just waiting to take leave for like 4 days haha.
Phineas Phreek 04-13-2011, 01:06 AM have you looked at the Indian valley Reservoir? it's little closer and a local with 25yrs off-roading told me tons of spots! just waiting to take leave for like 4 days haha.
Online I did note Indian Valley Reservoir when looking at camp sites, but didnt notice that there were trails there. The Indian Valley Res webpage of the BLM site hardly mentions it, and not enthusiastically: "There are limited off-highway vehicle (OHV) opportunities". I believe your friend, but previously dismissed this as a good spot. Their site REALLY doesnt do much selling it! Other BLM or Nat'l Park OHV locations spend more time describing their OHV opportunities.
Ultimately, one of my goal is to find the nicest, most unpopulated campsite with/near trails that are as close to my home as possible (for when the goal isn't remote backcountry camping, so always eager to hear about these little gems you/your friend keep mentioning! Thanks, and looking forward to getting our timing right
