after going thru the negatives of bigger tires write up i want to geep the tire size close to stock height as possible. okohama makes an at tire in this size, 235/60/16 now will these tires fit?? i have tho moab rims, and the stock 205/70/16 on still and they are streached,
i hope some one can answer this for me, this would be a great upgrade for someone wanting a At tire and still have some get up and go.
thanks

They should fit as long as you have close to stock backspacing. Your tire combo is a little shorter than stock (though wider). I bought the cheapest stock wheel and tire combo and it had 215/70 16's on it. They work well enough to run in the winter and I will save my nice wheels for summer use.

My summer tires are 215/60/17, and my winter tires are 235/60/16, which is the exact equivalent (same tire diameter) for the two sizes of tires, with different rim sizes.
I'm not sure about MOAB rims though, I just have the 16" steel Jeep wheels on with my winter tires.

blitz you have nothing to worry about. I was considering bigger tires as well before reading the "negatives of larger tires" thread. Now I'll be adding 235/60/17 with is 1" greater in diameter (28" overall) than the setup you are talking about (27.1" overall). Mine will also be going on 8" wheels that will stick out even more than your moabs.
Just to clarify...
27.1" diameter is the jeeps 16" stock (205/70/16) and (215/60/17) limited wheels
28" diameter is the optional limited wheel and tire package from Jeep (215/65/17)...seems no longer available
29" is the max aftermarket size with no mods (235/65/17)

were you able to fit 235/60/16 on an 8" rim? with what backspacing?
I believe that tire is 9.25 wide x 27 high.
It appears you are right that the max height is around 29".. and maybe the max width is 10" since ive seen people fitting 60s.
I still wonder if (after pushing in that ridge in the front wheel well I can fit
a 255/65/16 just a hair over 29 x 10 with a 8" rim. Im not worried about height as much as width.
Are there any reported cases of 245/60/16 or 255/65/16 on a stock 2wd Patriot with 8" wide rims??
Thanks.
