Sweet! I am really looking forward to finding out the specs on this!
This could make a HUGE impact on things...
Which Jeeps will be able to make the swap?!?!
Diesel Jeep Swap Kit
The wait is almost over! Jeep Performance, a division of Mopar Performance, is working on a stand-alone diesel engine swap kit to drop the 2.8 diesel that first appeared in the Jeep Liberty into your TJ, YJ, CJ, or?...source (http://blogs.4wdandsportutility.com/6232286/editorials/diesel-jeep-swap-kit/index.html)

If you just wanted a oilburner jeep, you can get a used KJ CRD.

Used KJ CRDs are fairly expensive, and hard to find, for the same pice I can get a early gas KJ with a good body, maybe a blown up engine, swap it out with zero miles on the engine...

true.. the first round is going to the larger Jeeps... but at least the flow has started! If things work out I don't see why it couldn't flow over to include the Patriot's too.
But that's just my thoughts.

.. if they bring the blutec's used in europe, i would be interested, but my boyfriend doesn't intend on keeping the jeep that long unfortunately. We're looking for a CAR that both of us can drive, because I guess he just really wanted a wrangler unlimited. He is thinking about just getting a scooter for getting to & from work for the milage.

Sorry to ruffle everyone's feathers but what was originally posted on this is currently not the plan according to my contacts at Mopar. Currently a business case is under way to evaluate the cost feasibility of this project. The news about the conversion kit was "leaked" during EJS but without prior approval of the offering. So, keep your fingers crossed that the Mopar business case proves to show the benefit to the market for this platform.
On another note, our magazine is planning a big project along these lines and coverage will be featured by our spring 2009 issue so be on the lookout. ;)
