Does anybody have the definitive answer as to the engine choices for the Patriot?

2.0 w/cvt 4x2 jeep patriot
2.4 every other configuration under the sun

Don't know what anybody would opt for this engine though, it's less powerful and the mpg is almost the same as the 2.4L

Ok... so when do we get the 300hp version in a "Patriot R/T"??

Probably wont happen anytime soon, I read in article about the SRT4 that the reason it isnt AWD is that the patriot/caliber/compass transfer case cant handle that much HP.

Yup, I read the same story... The driveline wasn't strong enough to handle the additional power from the turbo so we will probably never see a 300bhp version.

But maybe, just maybe Chrysler will get some witts about them and add a smaller PSI turbo to the engine and push the power ratings a littler closer to 200bhp. That'd be really cool!

If you believe what you see on E-bay you don't need any more engine choices. You can get up to 70 Horse power more and 20 miles to the gallon more just by buying and installing one of these miracle performance chips!

I can see where you might gain some performance or mileage by changing the chip or reprogramming the computer. It would be foolish to even entertain the idea that you can do anything to the engine electronically that will make changes in the double digits of better performance or mileage or both.

I was curious. For eight bucks I had to see what it was that would make my Chevy HHR do these kinds of astonishing tricks. They sent me a diode. The instructions were to install so it would render the sensor that senses the temperature of the incoming air useless. Needless to say, it made no difference in any kind of performance or mileage.

I'd be careful with these "miracle chips". In some states, they will violate the smog check and you'll be listed as a "gross polluter" and that's a moniker that is tough to get rid of in Calif....

And what about the factory warranty? If they have to do any diagnosis, this may show up. I'd be careful and talk with others that have tried this. Good luck--and let us know how it turns out!

Last year, a consumer show on CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corp.) tested dozens of these gadgets, including almost all of the ones advertised in magazines and in infomercials. Not surprisingly, none of them did anything. Some even used more gas.

Why would the "driveline" or "transfer case" not be able to handle that kind of power, or ever for that matter? A stock Evo can handle up to around 400 hp at the wheels, and for a long time Chrysler and Mitsubishi were all together with Mopar, therefore power and strength should not be any issue. Just my thoughts.

Did they make the engine the exact same CID as the original WWII Jeep on purpose? Can you imagine the CJ2 with a Patriot 2.2 engine. WOW! We now have more than 45 HP right?;)

I drove both in FWD and there was a noticeable difference in performance with the 2.4.
