I wanted to ask the people with Orders in for the 2007 Jeep Patriot if they are paying full MSRP or are they able to negotiate for a better price as a made to order car?

We ordered ours at dealership that sells everything at invoice plus $195. The salesmen get no commision and there are no other fees except sales tax. You will not find these types of dealerships near large cities, and when you do locate one, they will not disclose their price online. You will have to call.

TJ, you're not in the southeast, are ya? I'd drive quite a ways to get a deal like that.

Yep. Go to Jasper Jeep in Jasper Georgia.

Only 70 miles. Sweet. I'll tell them you referred me. Is there a particular guy you recommend?

They're all good. Ask for Ryker Lowe.

If I can't purchase a car under invoice, I'll wait until I can. It may take a while with the Patriot because it looks like Jeep has a hit with this one. There are too many people willing pay invoice or over-invoice right now to get a real good deal.

So what is your MSRP versus invoice? To me, the dealership telling you the "invoice price" without verifying it with an outside source has little meaning. If you did get an outside invoice price, where did you obtain it?

I trust car dealerships as far as I can throw them. I think they will tell you anything to make a sale.

When a car is popular and in demand, the dealerships have the upper hand. For example, when I purchased my Honda S2000 in 2001, almost every dealership in the Pittsburgh area wanted MSRP + $5k and would not budge. I finally found one that would sell it to me for MSRP.

One to two years later, once the initial demand peaked for the cars, people were purchasing new ones for $3,500 off MSRP.

Do I regret my purchase? No. Could I have saved some $$$ if I had waited? Yes! Did I learn a lesson about purchasing the first or second model year of a popular vehicle? Sure did!

Remember the PT Cruiser debute? You couldn't but a deal on those cars for a long time.

With that being said, my wife and I are still interested in the Patriot and may consider buying the first or second model year. I think that if Jeep plays their marketing cards right, this vehicle could be a home run for them. That means bad news for those who want one soon (as far as getting a smokin' deal.)

You can verify invoice with edmunds.com. If a dealer will not show you the invoice price, go somewhere else. There are a few honest dealers out there, but not too many!

Cool! I didn't know that www.edmunds.com had the invoice pricing available! Thanks!

...Remember the PT Cruiser debute? You couldn't but a deal on those cars for a long time...

Remember when the Miata first came out? It was a steal in the mid teens. Demand drove the price up and up.. It hasn't dropped back to the intro levels.

Same goes for the Harley Davidson 883 Sportster... they are more than twice the initial cost. They jumped up that high within the first half dozen years.
