So much for the press release embargo, huh? Nice review! Great pics. I found it interesting that the Trail RAted FD II rig has a bored out 2.4 freedom engine, vs the 2.0 base model.

I want one now more than ever.

What is the significance of a bored out engine?

what the article meant by the "bored out" thing is that both the 2.0 and the 2.4 are the same engine block. The 2.4 has bigger pistons which increase displacement by .4 liters and making an additional 14 hp over the 2.0 engine.

ahhh....I understand now. I thought he was eluding to something above and beyond the 172hp/165 torque we have all known about for months.

the article is full of goofs ... one of which is to claim that the base patriot sport has the 2.0 engine. the base engine is the 2.4. to get the 2.0 (-$200)you have to add CVT (+$1,050) (though the article says you can get the 2.0 with manual; that's not the case), so the price bumps up to $15,835, more than the "base" sport with manual and 2.4 at the oft-mentioned $14,985.

also, the description on the first page of "freedom drive 1" is silly and obviously referring to simply the "sport" model.

maybe some edits (including 2008 -> 2007) will happen before the article gets a live link on their homepage.

It was my understanding that the Patriot only came with the 2.4L engine. It was the Dodge Caliber with the other engine choices: 1.8 and 2.0 engines. Did I miss something?

I believe you can get the 2.0 L in the 4x2 patriot.

Only the 2.4 is available. I've seen the order sheet at the dealer.

Better check again its avail. Might be late availability but both the compass and patriot in 4x2 can get the 2L with the CVT.

I stand corrected! We ordered a Limited, so thats the only order screen I saw.
