I wash my car once a year. I bought my Patriot on Oct 31, 2007 and expect that it will get washed sometime in May or June 2008. I know that this is probably the worst on the forum, but I have owned many many cars since getting my first in 1969 and I rarely washed any- It did not seem to make much difference- Anyway a Jeep is supposed to get dirty and the colour that mine is needs to get subdued as it is too bright. Seriously- washing a Jeep is not very high on my list of priorities!!

hey charlimc,
Dont feel bad, I'm the same way. I never wash the jeep from nov till the end of may. There's no point with all the dirt on the road here. And also the Patriot look alot better with dirt on it.

I'm on 4 weeks now and only because I'm waiting for a good stretch of rain/snow free days that I can actually enjoy it being clean. I vaccuum and wipe down the interior pretty frequently though.

I am going down to the store to buy real good washing stuff and that ice from turtle wax...and the mcguires cleaner for the inside.

I plan on washing it weekly and doing the ice on the top and the hood at least once a month.

My ponitac sitting there after the sale has not been washed in two years. The rain keeps it pretty.
I figure the money I saved on not washing or waxing can get me a nice 200 paint job to maker her pretty for resale (the pontiac)...

Not gonna let the jeep slip on the washing though.

The rain seems to do an OK job so far. It was washed and "protected" at the dealwe where I bought it used, so I guess I'm going on 4 months.

About 2 miles from my work was a cash wash place that you could go to and for $3 drive thru. It was the same type of wash you get at the high dollar place, just didn't towel dry afterwards. They went up to $5 so I might start doing every other week car washes. If I go out of town, I got to spray the bugs off of the front.
The front of the PAT is just a huge bug magnet.

I totally disagree.

I don't wash my car very often for not being able to find the time to do it (I always hand-wash it myself, which takes time) and because in winter there weren't many dry periods. This spring and summer I plan on doing a quick wash every 2 weeks and a complete detail every month that includes wheel wells, tires, clay bar and waxing. Well, maybe clay-barring the car isn't necessary so often.

I used to run through the car wash every couple of weeks or so. Now I work out in an agricultural town full of food packaging plants, and there is pretty much nothing but orchards and grape vines between my house and work. So the car wash isn't so convenient.

I keep telling myself that I will get out and wash/claybar my Pat soon, but it is so sunny out! No respite from the Central Valley sunshine.

A couple of weeks ago, though, I did get out and attack the water spots on my passenger side (from the sprinklers) and spray/wipe down the inside. I also used a quick detail spray on the outside. All Meguiars.

I do, however, get out and dust down the Jeep about once a week or so. With no rain here, there isn't always a need to use water to clean our cars.

I wash at least once a week, sometimes a few times a week if it gets dirty. I have year-round access to an enclosed wash bay at work with pressure washers - in the winter, the bay and the water is heated. I'm ever so thankful for this, since I live in an apartment and don't have a very good place to clean my car. I have a parking space, but no hose hookup or anything. Besides, a heated power washer beats the hell out of a garden hose any winter day.

I keep a pretty close eye on the interior, too. I find that a quick vacuum and wipe down once a week or so reduces the need to have huge interior cleaning sessions. That and I am proud to report that all the carpet and upholstery is stain free after 8 months, knock on wood!

Bottom line is that I can't stand to have my car dirty. I know it's a Jeep, but there's something about a really clean car that makes me smile every time. That and it's priceless when other people get in with you and comment that your car is so much cleaner than theirs.

I wash my own at home in the front yard when the East Texas weather is dry for a while. It get a bit muddy after the rains with some pot holes in my driveway. So I would guess about 1 a month. Sometimes in between hand washes, if I'm busy I'll just hose off the mud from the sides while I water the plants. I wash both Jeeps at the same time. Good o' bucket of dish soap, with one of those raggedy sponges does fine. I wouldn't mind a pressure washer though.

I haven't had mine washed in nearly 4 months, but since having moved out to Arizona, with all the dust and crud in the air, I feel that washing the car would almost be a futile effort. It'll probably get washed soon though, since I plan on treating my Pat to a full detailing by professionals. She drove 1800 miles pulling a trailer with a full load. She deserves it. :)

I used to wash both my Patriots once a week, but then I worked part time at the car wash. I would drive my wife's Red 08 one day and wash it then the next day I would drive my White 08 and wash it. Then I got to where I only worked one day a week so it seemed that I was always taking wifes Jeep to be washed since I only drove a couple days a week and she drove to work every week day. We got my (was her) White Jeep Pat in May 08 and she liked it so well that I got the Red one in August but switched with her since she prefered the Red and the packages were the same. To me it doesn't matter the color just that it has cruise since I drive 100 to 150 miles every day now as an independent contract driver. Have to say was a little skeptical about the Patriot but since wife got hers and I drove it a few times it sold me and I went and purchased the 2nd one. Wife liked the looks of the Liberty but after seeing the mileage it said it got went with the Patriot and is very happy :pepper::smiley_thumbs_up::D

During the summer when I started working, I think it went for 3 or 4 weeks without being washed. During the winter it goes on average probably a bit less often than that because I end up taking it to a car wash once there's a decent bit of salt/dirt buildup. Aside from that, I usually wash it once a week by hand (I never use the car wash while the weather still allows me to wash it by hand).

If I didn't get hit it would have been July 29th 2007, for the Jeep, but I had my Toyota T-100 that I didn't wash at all till the day I put it out front to sell it which was also the day I sold it, so three years? I don't think I ever swept it out either. I live in sandy southern New Jersey, so it builds up a small layer of sand, and then it just cycles through sand, never gets more, or less, just a baseline of sand. But to split hairs, I could say 21 years, as I have never washed a car

I don't actually wash any vehicle all winter. It is too cold and we get too much snow usually. After every storm, when the roads dry up I take it to the do it yourself place up the street and spray it off real good from top to bottom and underneith real good to get the road salt off. This goes on all winter until spring and the weather breaks and then it gets an actual wash about every 2 weeks. I do it by hand in the yard. None of my vehicles are allowed in automatic car washes.

Right now it is covered with mud mostly down the sides so it will get done this weekend.

As to the inside, I clean it out and put leather conditioner on the seats almost every week, year round. unless it is just too darn cold and then I might skip a week. The inside is always clean........the outside, not so much.

So you finally washed your moto after 2,5 years? And how was the result? Don't you love it when your toy (bike or car) looks shiny and clean? That's why I'm so much into detailing since I bought the Patriot. It was my new car and I wanted to keep it looking good for as long as you can. Too bad I've scratched it at the corners.

DaveJKJ I totally understand that you don't wanna clean the car in winter in cold regions. I've experienced a couple of winters in deep continental parts of both Europe and the USA when temperatures would never even reach 0ºC at their daily maximum and you'd have to be crazy to clean the car by hand and get all wet and exposed. I live by the warm and mild Mediterranean, so that's not a problem for me. But I think interior detailing is a good thing to do in winter months.

Took the Pat in for the 18k mile check up to keep the warranty and the car dealer actually washed the car after doing all the other stuff at no extra cost. That was pretty cool. Now if I can get them to do the inside of the windows and vaccuum her out I'll be in business.

Yeah, I was a bit iffy on the colour at first, but it turns out that mud looks good on blue, so. It works. I don't see the point in putting in effort or spending money to wash it when I'm going to get it all dirty again right after. I think the most I'll do in the winter time is spray down the under carriage now and then.

Snow flew around in the air here yesterday. Winter can't be far off. I discovered that I probably only washed my Patriot about 7 times all summer. 3 times when I had to travel in the country at night, using my car as a giant bug killer. 3 times when a light short rain took all the dirt out of the air and placed it on my car. Once when I wanted to wax the car. Now that the winter season is here washing will become more frequent provided it isn't -20F.

I would assume it's from the Canadian-mandatory 'day time running lights', where all vehicles in Canada have to have some sort of running light on at all times. Some use a low-beam setting on the main lights, some use the indicator lights (that brighten when you use them to 'indicate').

I've never gone outside of mine with it turned on to look at which lights are on during the day.

I noticed at your photos that (I'm not sure about the name in english, I mean the yellow ones) your indicator lights are on. Are they always on when you turn your lights on? Is that only in US?In 1968 or 69 the US cars started to have running lights that showed to the side. both front and rear. Orange in front & side, red in back & side. So in answer to the question, US cars have lights on all 4 corners illuminated any time the headlights are on.

Other folks answered pretty much spot on.

My headlights come on when the car is running, only turn off when the parking break is on. The marker lights have to be on anytime the headlights are on, and on all four corners.

In Canada, most headlights have three intensity settings, DRL, Low-beam, High-beam. DRL is dimmer than low-beams, and can't be turned off without some wiring. Required, though.

Not familiar with Brampton too much.

If you feel like going for a drive, you can come up to Barrie some time and make a day of the trails out here. I'm still hunting down new trails, but most of the ones I know can handle a 4x2, and if not, we always have two-straps on hand :P

as much as i love my patty....its nearly impossible to keep it clean and i will explain...

i own a white jeep pat, and i lvoe when its shiny and clean....but

2 problems arise with my jeep....first and foremost is that its white, and white is a difficult color to keep clean 24/7

secondly i am currently living at my parents house for the next few months and...well....we live out in the country and its on a dirt road....yea dirty road..

so even if i do wash it, and take my time and really clean it.....guess what? the SECOND i turn it on and back out of the driveway, boom...dirty again....:(

but when i was living at school i would wash it once a week and it look perfect cuase i didnt have to worry about the dirt and dust from the roads. :)

Just this past weekend was my Pat's first hand wash since I purchased her in Dec '07. Other than that, just hosing off now and then. She's khaki, so dirt dosen't show so bad. I thought after a year and 25,000+ miles...she should have a good bath. Looks like the day I drove her off the lot. VERY HAPPY!:smiley_thumbs_up:

My local car wash has a special...$99 for unlimited car washes for 6 months. I jumped on it. I used to only wash my car maybe once a month, now it's once a week.

I got my Pat in the summer of 07, and it has yet to be hand washed. I ran it through a "laser wash" a little over a year ago, but that was the last time it had anything besides the rain and snow. Its Jeep Green, so dirt doesnt show and I would rather spend my time playing in it then cleaning it.

The Patriot, not too long - maybe a couple months or so. It gets most dirty when winter temperatures rise to around freezing, whenever the roads are a mess. I like the Jeep muddy, but not for long. I've only taken it to self-wash bays using pressure washers... quick rinse. Hand wash only works in summer ;) I usually give it a rinse when temperatures drop well below freezing (but not when too cold of course!)

My older '91 Mazda, about 2 years+ was longest since Ive gave it a rinse... with its fading and peeling paint (and yellow hub caps), it looked much nicer in dirt.

After 6 weeks of ownership, I've washed it once, after a mudy off-road excursion. In other cases except that, I don't wash it...

The Jeep Wrangler I currently own was purchased new in 05. Never washed it until this past winter. Took it to a self wash and it was so cold the water punched a hole in my back window (soft top). Currently I am shopping for a Patriot; I will prolly wash it more often.

Whats the longest you've gone without a car wash?

Sorry, how about NEVER?

I can't say that "I" have ever had a "car" wash, but my CARS have!

I bought my riot in April 07 washed the first week, then once a year later, after driving in the ocean at pismo beach was worried about rust. My suspension creeked for 3 months after that.

I wash my Pat about once every 4 months. Cleaning the inside, that hasn't happened yet, and I bought it in October 2007. That vinyl is really durable!

its good to see other s that are not addicted to washing their cars..:D

usually after those long warm weather drives the windshield and front grill are covered in bug bodies..so usually once a week i ll wash the windows and front grill areas with a liquid car wash..the widows are usually the only thing
i ll dry..

in the winters i ll hose down the under carriage once a week..during the 4 month period none of the cars really get more than a hosing..cept the windows..

just befor the weather turns during the spring and winters..i ll spend a weekend giving the finish a good waxing *2-3 coats*..

NOTE: whenever there s bird droppings..i ll wash off ASAP..and apply
a coat of wax..

10 months and haven't washed it yet.

I've got two trips to the Allagash (Maine) yhis summer, maybe when I get back from the second I'll think about cleaning it up.

I have to wash it at least once every other month because of where I have to park, but I put some nice wax on it about every 3 monthes

Us detailing nuts would get pissed at the dealership if they cleaned the car without permission.

Totally agree. Now they at my local dealership know it very well when taking my Pat for service. No washing, no changing my seat position, no 'dis, no 'dat, no nothing...
I'm happy with my OCD! :smiley_thumbs_up:

I had a 1977 Camaro that I didnt wash for 2 years. 2 complete winters. I got rid of it when the frame rusted out and a leaf spring knocked out one of the back seats. I wash my Jeep about once a week.

Longest mine has gone with a wash was about a month, in the summer. I usually get it pretty dirty on weekends, and usually wash more often. I carry a 35mm film container full of quarters to use at those self-serve wand wash places. In the winter I wash a lot more often with all of the road salt and sand etc they use around here. I like the wand washes cause you can get up under the vehicle and in the wheel wells pretty well.
