: So many threads
jepstr67 02-27-2008, 11:03 PM It would me nice if, before you start a now topic there was a quick way to discover if your topic might fit in a thread that already exists. I come across entire duplicate conversations every so often when searching for topics.
sciron4x4 02-28-2008, 07:03 AM I'm guessing the only way to find this out would BE to run a search before posting.
??
jepstr67 02-28-2008, 08:01 AM Well, yes. I've tried that. That is how I find the double and triple conversations about...whatever. Then when I do discover one that matches, it is usually in the middle of an unrelated thread somewhere.

2 reasons-1 the mods here dont seem to ever group or combine like topics and threads and allow several onesto exist scatterd all over the place and 2- people tend to start talkingoff topic in the middle of threads and take the thread elsewere

That's the case on every automotive forum that has ever existed.
If anyone finds topics that they feel should be edited or merged, I encourage them to PM me and I'll do what I can. I try to be as active as possible, but I admitedly do not read every post on every thread.

as a thread grows, topic can change from where it started,
also when i have something to post,
dont always feel like checking to see if that topic has been covered,
if its a question people will generally remind you its been covered and refer you to go search,
if its a dead topic, wont get many replies and it just fades away to obscurity

seems tru.I just started reading here but I do see you very active.thanks for the offer. I was not meaning to slam, this seems like a great place.
jepstr67 06-09-2008, 06:45 PM It seems a new mileage thread starts every other day. Please find and combine them into one.
How about a major heading called, "Mileage and Fuel prices"
Oil prices, world oil economy. Oil supply. Conserving fuel. Hypermiling, driving techniques. Ranting about expensive fuel. Anything to do with saving or using fuel. Fuel tank size issues. Topping of the tank, locking gas caps. under hood fuel devices and inventions. Records, how far on, how much, how little, fuel.
I can't control members who don't search before starting new threads. Everyone must do their part to keep the forums clean... I try to merge like threads when I stumble upon them, however, it's impossible for me to dedicate the time required for searching each and every section for similar threads... Sorry.

I meant combine them into the new major heading.

Good idea Jepstr67.. though a pithy forum name eludes me at the moment.

Gaze.. you're doing a great job and have absolutely nothing for which to apologize :). As internet forums go, JP.com is the Bees Knees and a wonderful international enthusiast community where shared passions as well as diversity are celebrated. No changes required really, just a few tweaks here and there as the need arises and the membership's interests evolve. All in all, JP.com is a fine work indeed!
