I was on ebay and I put in Jeep patriot and i was looking and saw these chips that sounded great adding 12 more mpg and an extra 45 horses the website says they're the best thing but it sounds too good to be true. and with the 172 hp engine being a little weak and bumping up the torque i thought would definitely help me out and plus who doesn't like better gas mileage

can anyone give me some info before i go and blow up my car

This came up in another thread...and a member gave a pretty good viewpoint that went something like "The Patriot is all about fuel economy and if these devices were designed to function as advertised, they would have been installed on every vehicle from the factory"

You could risk your warranty adding such modules as these.

Just my $.02

Waste of time. Performance "chips" do exist, but what you're looking at there is a cheap resistor that will do little more than try to trick your engine computer. It's a waste of time, money, and a potential cause of disaster.

The only way I know of that reliably increases performance and fuel economy on an engine is to have the engine 'remapped' by an expert using a rolling road.

For example Startech in Germany can do this and I know of one company in the UK who I would trust to do this properly.

one comes at the sacrifice of the other

I can't help but think that the folks at Jeep would run not walk to any mere plug in that would up horsepower AND gas mileage at the same time. The chip thing is probably too good to be true. Even if it is true, there will be some sacrifice somewhere - like piston/valve crashes.

And, as Terasec says, one comes at the sacrifice of the other. There is only so much energy in an amount of gasoline. More horsepower will require more energy (more gas).
