I've got a 2008 North Edition and didn't realize until after I picked it up that the cross bars for the roof rack weren't included.

I called the dealer and they told me it's approx. $165 to get the cross bars. Is this my best option? Anybody else have any other ideas or cheaper ways to get them?

for that price, you might as well go with the Mopar Sport Utility bars or grab something aftermarket that have more versatility.

www.justforjeeps.com has the Mopar bars at one of the cheapest rates around.

I have the ones that came with my limited. They look nice, but unless I buy other attachment pieces, I don't think they are much use. I want a roof basket myself.

Thanks for the JustforJeeps link.
All I need is to be able to throw a canoe up on the roof of the jeep to do a little fishing. Not sure if I need more than the standard cross bars or not...

You'll need the sport utility bars for that. The basic ones aren't wide enough to mount a canoe (I found out the hard way!)

I've seen them on e-bay for around 110 USD

I had the same issue with the canoe(s); I've got the basic racks and the canoe(s) didn't fit too well. I ended up using a Yakima rack in the front, which is good for one canoe and to extend the back, bought a piece of natural gas pipe from home depot and attached it to the existing rail. For two canoes, just get a longer piece of pipe. The Yakima rail is the exact size that 3/4 inch natural gas pipe slides into so I put a foot long piece in each side to extend it, with a couple spring clip thingys it holds great.
My biggest problem was how to tie them down to a Pat without tow hooks, I can't find any place in the front or back without ripping apart the plastic (the skid plates and tow hooks I'm still trying to get) I ended up with an after market hitch for the back (about $120) and drilled holes in the front, down throught the steel bumpers and attached large eye bolts (about $3). It all holds nicely and have hauled two canoes hundreds of kms (or miles) with no problems.

Mudhead, you mentionned that you drilled holes in the front and attached large eye bolts. Got any photos of those bolts, or what you attached them with?
I may do the same... Thanks

Jock, whatever you decide to do, be careful when ordering online from the U.S. Some places charge very high rates to ship to Canada. Add broker's fees, GST, etc., and it's no bargain. Check out Canadian Tire and other sources in Canada before buying U.S.

I am soo missing tow hooks for carrying my canoe! I have hood straps that work OK, not great, for one canoe. There is one under bumper connection point but its off to one side so doesn't work well for the canoe, but does work when I add the kayak. PLEASE post picts of your mods!!
