My wife and I checked out in person the only Patriot that we know of in the Pittsburgh area.

These are the approximate dimensions at the narrowest point in the rear cargo area: 23 1/2" deep, 28" wide, and 28 1/2" tall. There is a little bit more usable room, but we are looking to put our dog crate back there.

I've attached a few pix... sorry for the poor quality, I only had my camera phone.

Overall, I was pretty impressed with its interior room. I'm 6' and was nowhere near the headliner when seated. I'd have to see a Cherokee and a Patriot side by side, but they seem pretty close in size.

Brett, did this one have the fold-flat front passenger seat? If so, did you by any chance get a measurement front to rear with it folded.
Hmmm, and re the narrowest point in the rear cargo area, was that really only 28 inches? Man, that is narrow. Appreciate any info.

No, I didn't think to look for the fold-flat front passenger seat.

There is 38" between the shock towers in the back. That's the narrowest point; it does widen up ~4-6" per side past the towers. The 28" is from the rear door to the back seats.

I hope that answers your questions. The wife and I are really psyched to test drive one.

Not the best test for the rear cargo area but, at NAIAS I layed both of the back seats down and asked my brother ( who is 6'1) to lay down in the back. If he was angled in diagonally I was able to close the back hatch. So for a guess I would say there was 5'9 feet of room if you loaded something in straight. Like I said not the best test but hope it gives you an idea.

Cool. Thanks for the info and photos!

I was a bit worried about having a that "must duck" feeling, too. I'm glad to hear that there is head room for the taller folks.

Now those measurements are really sounding better.
Thanks, folks.
